I know we all badly want them to communicate but I actually REALLY like the pace… The super slowww burn is perfect because it allows us to really get to know them and it increases the tension and anticipation. I personally would have happily taken several more chapters of the piggyback journey and Keane delivering Onyx home! Though I’m super excited about the basketball trip too. I don’t think we should expect too much progress, too soon though… A little communication (or more accidental slip of the tongues, a la Onyx in this chapter) would be enough. Plus maybe a kiss or two as it’s been a while and they (and we) deserve it! 😏 Also, can we talk about Onyx (perhaps unconsciously?) channeling himself via what he said about Hailey? I didn’t pick up on it straight away but who is he ACTUALLY talking about here? “she was waiting for you. She made her best effort and dressed up so nicely. She was waiting and yet you…” - Says Onyx who dressed up prettily as Lynx and was desperately hoping that Keane would turn up…and then got depressed and drunk when he didn’t. 👀

I'm glad Keane finally snapped and let Onyx know that he is not dating Hailey. This was a conclusion Onyx drew himself out of jealousy and dealing with his own feelings for Keane. Neither Hailey nor Keane ever said they were boyfriend/girlfriend, or official, or dating, but Onyx decided to assume this, despite never hearing it straight from the horse's mouth. Now he's heard it from the source, and all of those feelings he was trying to ignore are rushing back. However...I am still a bit upset with Onyx and how he deliberately pushed Keane away (and used Ethan, let'sbe real). I get that he is in love with Keane, so naturally he would be upset at a possible girlfriend standing in the spot he wants to be in. But you don't cut off your best friend with the help of a terrible suggestion from someone who's virtually a stranger in comparison. Yes, Keane was being a blockhead when he kept dragging Lynx/Onyx along in his pursuit, but this is why we have mouths. Onyx should have opened his and let Keane know that he wasn't cool with that. Instead he internalized everything and his mind took off with its own conclusions. Now he's realizing just how much he misses Keane, and how badly he wants him in his life. The communication still needs to happen between these two in order for them to move forward, not even romantically, but as best friends. My hope is they will do this on the trip, but young boys are magnets for shenanigans, and I'm sure some level of foolery will ensue. We shall see. 🤔
