Sometimes I wonder why I bother writing game design tips & examples. Yes, a tiny number of people like them. But mostly people don't know they exist, and those that do want me to summarize them in a chat tailored to their exact project.

THAT is what my $250/hour professional, personalized consulting rate is for. (With, so far, 100% satisfaction.)(And, for note, if we have published together, gamed together, or eaten together, you can absolutely reach out to me for some casual advice --- the pro consultation is for deep dives and/or people I have no history with.)

Since inevitably someone will ask me where to find these posts:

My most recent posts with game design notes are here on my Patreon, and tagged with the Game Design tag.

There's much, much more content with the Game Design tag at my bllog - owenkcstephens.com.

I hate to harp on it, but am fighting cancer, and that's expensive. Becoming a paying member of this Patreon is a huge help. So are direct donations of any size at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-owen-kc-stephens-fight-cancer

It's true, 100% satisfied.

I really enjoy your game design notes and hold in the same esteem as the dvd extras, most especially like director commentary on my favorite movies. Plus, your notes help me understand the choices you made in the design process and that influences choices I make when putting together encounters for my own games

Wes Harvin II

Agreed. Definitely keep them coming.

David Chart

The posts may be good as advertising for the consulting, however. Not only can you design games, you can also explain why things are done a certain way, and apply those principles to new situations.

Weston Clowney

I definitely enjoy reading the design notes. Up until you posted the recent two, I didn't know there was a back catalog of them, so now I'm following your links here and reading some more!

7thMastery

You know I love them but do what supports your life and energy best.

Apocalypse Construct

As someone struggling to break into the game design arena, I really appreciate reading your design philosophy. The more I understand why things are the way they are, the more confidence I have in my own writing. All that being said, now more than ever, there's a premium on your time and energy. If you don't feel it's worth the effort right now, that's totally understandable! (Though if you do decide to put them on hiatus, I hope to see them again in the future.)

THAT is genuinely a potential benefit I had not considered. Thanks, David!

Thanks, Christen. It's true, it might be harder for me to NOT post notes about game design than to keep including them. Sometimes I can't help myself. :)
