I have been taking notes for a book, "Everything I Needed To Know To Beat Cancer I Learned From RPGs." Now that I HAVE beaten cancer, I'll actually be working on the book, as time and energy allow.

I plan to share some of that process with you, the people who have done SO much to keep me able to fight. All of these snippets are rough first drafts, but I wanted to give you sneak peaks at this book that is only possible from your help.

So, here's my first stab at a foreword.

Foreword

In 1982, my parents took a trip to Europe... and did not bring my sister or myself along. While I was offended by this at the time, as an adult I completely understand.

Instead, we were left with my Uncle Lucien and Aunt Rosemary (and their three children, our cousins), in Oak Ridge Tennessee. My uncle introduced me to many things that would become formative parts of my life –the Wizard of Oz books, Asterix and Obelix, and the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons hardback “Dungeon Master’s Guide.”

I was instantly hooked on D&D, and I very quickly knew it was going to be part of my life for a long time. What I did not know was that it was going to be my primary medium for making friends, how I would woo the woman who became my wife, or that it would become my lifelong career.

I also didn’t realize it was going to teach me life lessons I’d need to defeat a real-life monster, when I was diagnosed with late Stage 1 colorectal cancer in early 2023. Luckily, Everything I Needed To Know To Beat Cancer I Learned From Roleplaying Games.

I've beaten cancer, now I just have to beat the bills that have been piling up during this 18-month fight. Being a paying member of my Patreon is already a huge help. You can also help by taking a look at this RPG bundle. Twenty-six publishers have offered $1200 worth of games for just $30, with proceeds going to my bills. But it's only for a limited time!
