Starfinder First Edition specifically assumes that special materials like adamantine are already used in armor construction to the greatest degree possible in each suit, so there's no need for special adamantine rules such as exist in the feudal fantasy version of the game. But some people adore having options, including fantasy terms having game mechanical effects in science-fantasy games. And, I admit, I am one of those people.

So, I'm doing special armor materials for Starfinder First Edition. Links to all my Starfinder special materials for armor articles (which is just three, at time of writing) can be found, along with links to many other Starfinder entries, at the Paying-Patreon Exclusive Starfinder First Edition Index.

Special Armor Materials

Armor made of special materials can only be made of ONE special material. You can't have your armor benefit from being made of both adamantine and mithral, though legends claim there was once a special material that acted as both, called dragonsteel...

Special Armor Material: Elysian Bronze

Elysian bronze armor replaces most of the materials normally used in the armor's construction with the supernatural, monster-resisting metal known as Elysian bronze. Elysian bronze can be mined from hunks of planar mountains found in hyperspace, or can be crafted by specially trained divine smiths. It is not possible to craft Elysian bronze armor without access to a source of Elysian bronze, which is rare.

Price is increased by +15%

When the wearer of Elysian bronze armor takes damage from attacks made by magical beasts or monstrous humanoids (even when those attacks are made by manufactured weapons wielded by creatures of that type), the damage is reduced. The reduction is equal to 1/4 the armor's level for light armor and shields, and equal to 1/2 the armor's level for heavy armor. This reduction happens after any other adjustment to the damage (such as energy resistance, damage reduction, vulnerability, temporary hit points, and so on). The reduction in damage from Elysian bronze armor and Elysian shield stack with each other, and with an adamantine suit or armor or shield.

(Elysian bronze is also used to craft divine forger inevitables, which craft weapons for the gods themselves. Art by Dolimac.)
