Maybe it's Amy's mom put a spell on your upload. Get Miss Calendar see if she can help with her hawtness 💙😃

Juan Sanchez

Downloading as I lurk with my Angel good looks 💻 I'm jacked in I'm jacked in 🔪 🌻💙⚡👑 #Goddess #SecretCrush

Cole Crouse

Congratulations, you made it through the worst episode of the series (in my opinion.) Buffy is generally so well made and acted with interesting themes and great character moments that it feels like a more modern show set in the late 90s, but this one feels so dated and uninspired.

Koz

I have always had trouble when it says you have to download. Dagnabbit!

Alley Box
>>36401278

im sorry!! im uploading a different file type right now to see if that was the problem

Koz
>>36401278

Hey, it’s not your fault! It’s these dang computers. Obviously this never happens to people reacting to a book. 😁

Bisibia

If you're not jacked in... I mean... I just can't with this one lol Def my vote for worst of the whole series. Also, don't worry bout being chill or whatever, just be yourself. We get it... this one is rough.

Arnold Kim

Obviously Moloch wants to infect everyone’s computers by requiring a download.

Allan Cornett

Most agree this is the worst episode of BTVS EVER.

Jenn Rose

No need to apologize for being "chill". We don't want you to force a reaction if you aren't feeling an episode. Plus no one will blame you cause this isn't the best episode anyway 😂

Ryan

From one of the better episodes of Buffy straight into the dumpster fire that is episode 8

Chip

I know people don't really like this episode but i've always had a soft spot for it hehe

DB

I'm pretty sure this is universally accepted as at least bottom 5 if not the worst episode of the show. It's so dated as well yikes Altho makes me appreciate the modern technology. In just over 20 years it really evolved quite a lot. I do not miss the days of floppy discs or dial-up. Or my eternal favourite of downloading 1 episode of a tv show 24/7 for a week only to end up with a weird porn instead. Nowadays I freak out when a video buffers for 2 seconds haha Anyway Miss Calendar! I remember reading the actress who played her became ultra religious.

Meredith

Yeah least favorite episode by far, even less than the coyote one- and that’s saying a lot!

DB
>>36402784

Oh is this BtVS equivalent of Bugs? Hahaha it's telling me to download but yeah, I can wait until I can just stream it ;)

Vincent Valentin

fyi. season 1 has a couple eps like this but this is def the worst episode of the whole show. So its only up from here haha.

Paul Thomas-Humphreys

Stupid question for technical types... If I download do I need a one hub account to be able to watch?

Ryan

FYI she dangles it from her bellybutton

BHillzebub
>>36403505

No. just get it to play immediately after downloading and you'll be good.

Lindsey Metcalfe

I think the main purpose of this episode was to introduce a person that I can't say anything else about because spoilers.

ThatGuy11200

And then there's this episode. Quite the let down after 'Angel'. Oh well.

Cole Crouse
>>36401220

Just finished watching, and I have to say that I had more fun than I thought I would. You busting out laughing at the ridiculousness and cheese helped me to see some humor in the episode. Anyway, I have a fun fact for this episode! When Willow opens her locker, you can see that she has a picture of Giles on the inside of her locker door. Not really a great piece of trivia, but it's not really a great episode. Excited for the next one!

Rachel Espiritu

When this episode first aired, it was already considered the worst episode of Buffy so far, and one of the worst things we'd ever seen. Even by 1997 standards it was incredibly dated. But in recent years, it seems like a lot of first-time watchers (especially reactors like Liam Duke) seem to love this episode ironically. It's hard to predict what's just bad, and what's so bad it circles back around to being good again.

Alley Box
>>36401220

glad u enjoyed it!!! and willow...... you have something you wanna share with the class?? i mean, giles has been serving sooo cant blame her

Acacia

Aaaaaand this is why no one’s favorite season is season one. Luckily it’s a pretty short one and the next season is so crazy balls to the wall good that it makes up for it in the end. I think your criticism is valid! The writing is clumsy as hell and you can tell the writers were struggling to find out what they could do successfully with the plot. Add in them not having a complete feel for the characters yet and there’s a recipe for disaster. But hey! At least we got a Willow episode and not another Xander cringe fest.

UTU49

Thoughts. 1. This is an unpopular episode -- which lots of other people have mentioned. 2. I think the single thing that would have improved this episode the most for me would be improving the voice acting of Moloch. He never seemed like anything but a plot device. If his adoration of Willow had felt somewhat genuine, I think it would have made everything more interesting. 3. For me, this episode is the "Jar Jar Binks" of the Buffyverse. I pretend that it doesn't exist. 4. I love the final scene.

Thomas Hansen

I like this episode more than most, but it's certainly not a high point. Honestly, I think the main problem is that the last ten minutes are the worst part of the episode, so one can't help but feel underwhelmed when it ends. The first thirty minutes are in my opinion at least decent.

Mark Zima

This episode mainly just served to introduce Miss Calendar, the Techno-Pagan. The Willow character eventually develops quite a lot, but no more on that topic should be said at this point, so I'll leave it at that.

Alley Box
>>36408039

yeah I feel that. when he came back at the end it just felt like it was dragging. like they got to the point where they killed the demon but then the writers went "oh shit... we still have 10 minutes left...... uh-" and then had him come back for that tiny fight lol

TheLoungingPotato
>>36408126

Tiny typo—I think you meant “Ms. Calendar” since Ms. French was the pedo mantis from episode 4 haha

Ed Badalucca

Between this one and Teacher's Pet... you've encountered the very worst of Season 1. There's probably only 2 or 3 more episodes this bad in the entire series!

Other Boy Reactions

OMG I never noticed Buffy’s status changing from Sophomore to Senior in the next shot! How weird😂 But great reaction considering the mess of an episode you had to work with👍🏽😄

James MacDonald

First of all, you're god damn hilarious. I wasn't sure I could go through the entire series with another reactor, but you're seriously entertaining. Secondly, whenever a new reactor starts Buffy, my first thought is: "Let's get them through this first season. Hang in there, kid." It gets much, much better. Season 1 has some good episodes. This ain't one of them. It's almost unanimously considered one of the worst in the series.

UTU49

It's playing!! It's playing!!

UTU49
>>36407486

5. The next few episodes are all pretty good. By "the next few episodes", I mean the next 136 episodes.

Alley Box
>>36410161

thank you so so much!! im glad ur enjoying :D and yeah haha, this was definitely my least favorite so far. but i still got hope. after the Angel episode, i knew this show was gonna pop off and make amazing episodes soon

Valkyrie

"I'm jacked in, I'm jacked in, I'm jacked in, I'm jacked in >:) ." this is considered by some the worst episode, (which is obviously understandable it is still very bad lmao) in the entire series. I can't justify it as my least favourite though because it is so absurd and stupid I laugh so hard at it. I remembered basically nothing about this episode and boy oh boy did I get a giggle out of this. Great reaction.

Miranda

Ah, the Willow gets catfished by a demon episode. Yeah.. not a great one. I do think we will start to see Willow grow and change, but this episode doesn't really show it. The scene in episode 6 when Willow isn't tricked by possessed Xander and doesn't give him the keys- feels like a better clue into her inner strength than this whole episode. But as a child of the 90s, this does capture the level of adult CONCERN about that scary thing called the "'net"

zerofk

Oh since nobody mentioned it yet: the title is referring to a quote "me Tarzan, you Jane". The connection with the episode is tenuous at best.

Miranda
>>36411552

It's two references, "me Tarzan, you Jane" and "I, Robot" the Issac Asimov story/ Will Smith movie. I think the Tarzan reference is getting at the ham-fisted way Moloch kidnaps Willow and expects her to love him. The robot bits is just robots. Also, naming one of the characters Dave and having Moloch's text to speech voice which sounds like HAL is a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

TheMew

I don't know if you noticed but the kid with the green shirt Dave is the guy that played Ash on spn. Keep an eye out a bunch of people from Buffy and Angel show up on Supernatural but you may not have realized it when you were watching that until they show up here. I watched Buffy/ Angel first so it was cool to see people show up when I started watching Spn back when it first started

Moon Logic

I think this episode (as well as several S1 episodes) seem better in hindsight, because while this episode doesn't really move Willow's character forward much, it does cement stuff that will be important later. In the computers vs books debate, I think Miss Calendar makes some great points for computers. Also, I've tried to find members of the technopagan subculture so I can sign up, but I sadly haven't found any yet :(

Mariah Fallon

This is maybe the worst episode of the whole show? Definitely up there so hold strong!

Sika6061
>>36402825

Really? Even less than the lagoon one? That was the worst for me. This is the second worst...then coyote

Richard Lucas
>>36401220

That’s a fascinating piece of trivia given something else that someone pointed out to me in another episode.

Richard Lucas
>>36402445

There’s a lot not to hate about it. Love the opening, and the suicide scene with Dave is just so dark. And the way he just carelessly kills his loyal flunkie as well. And I love the word technopagan.

Richard Lucas
>>36407486

When I did a bottom ten for Buffy, I didn’t even include any season one, it just didn’t seem fair. I still think the worst is not a season one, but it feels so much like a season one.

Mark Zima

Considering that Buffy is NOT a senior yet, I wonder if Moloch could have been randomly causing mischief with the school records? I say randomly because Buffy seems to have not come to his attention yet for personalized mischief as he was seemingly examining her record at that time to find out who she was. Right?

Saint Mercy

First off, OMG Gracie is the most adorable thing I've ever seen!!!!! Secondly I honestly forgot this episode existed LOL I guess it is just that bad. I mean I remember Miss Calendar's existence but the rest of this episode was a blank. Thirdly, your love for Giles is giving me life! Fourthly....Fourth of all??? I don't either is right.....Anyway I wonder what the deal with it saying she was a senior was about, maybe the demon changed it cause he thought it was funny? Lastly, Cant wait for the next episode!

Dhevian

it's fine that you don't like every thriller episode. Not all of them are great, but some of them are.

Phoenix Dawn

I don’t much like this episode aside from Ms. Calendar addition. Also, the type of creepy horror it was going for aged sooo terribly haha. Mystery of computers and early internet was something else. So, at very least, cyber demon idea is mildly interesting haha. Well, unfortunately nothing much of interest until the finale . Wish you had watched like one a day so we got there sooner.

Eric Haefele

Birthdate: 10/24/80 Status: Sophomore was the info of Buffy in the first screen we saw. Then seconds later the second screen we saw showed Birthdate: 05/06/79 Status: Senior for Buffy.

Dave Ford

There was always something spectacularly bad about how Hollywood and TV treated the Internet during the 1990's - this is a typical example though there are much worse (see Hackers or The Net) - surprisingly for a Wheadon show this is still only marginally self-aware about how cliched it is (the remark about uploading a virus ala Independence Day is the only exception) . Rest assured there aren't any more episodes both as crass and as plot and character light as this one going forward. If you want a decent movie about computers, there is only one from before the millennium - War Games.

UTU49
>>36407486

That is my inclination as well -- to not include episodes from season 1 in a bottom ten list. The difference between Season 1 and Season 2 is like the difference between an unaired pilot, and an actual pilot. I'd love to describe how I see the differences between season 1 and 2, but it would be more appropriate to do that once were part way into season 2.

Dave Ford
>>36411552

And, just in case you're wondering, there's no reason why anyone under the age of 40 would have got the 'Me Tarzan, you Jane' reference back in 1997 either.

Dave Ford
>>36414755

Yeah, but I do think that's Giles' "knowledge should be smelly" is one of the best lines of S1

Moon Logic
>>36414755

There seems to be an unintended sexual connotation from Giles there, which is amplified by Miss Calendar's revelation that she dangles "corkscrews" from mysterious places on her body.

Koz

I finally just now watched it! I am not allergic to penicillin.

Dave Ford
>>36433558

Sneakers gets bonus point for having your actual adults in it. Plus I don't remember any talking computers, or GUIs that were done in MS paint.

Brandon Scott

Quickly, not a favorite of mine or the fandom in general... but also, the computer screen did list senior as her status when the student was shown the page but when its first pulled up in the office on its own it was listed as a Sophomore. It might be that the Demon changed it but it might be just as likely that it was just a mistake.

Rockworm

"I want more Willow" be careful what you wish for lol

Allan

You have to not look at the continuity errors...early 1st season episode. A lot will be retconned...i.e. Senior haha

Mark Zima

I re-watched the episode, and found that what I wrote earlier was incorrect. Buffy's school profile first identifies her as a sophomore, then we cut to Buffy getiing the attention of Moloch, and then we immediately cut back to Buffy's profile and can see that it now labels her as a senior. The implication is that Moloch started messing with Buffy's school record as soon as she came to his attention.

David Ingracia III

So already watching ur reactions videos have brought me so much joy. i love watching people discover Buffy and all it has to offer. Keep up the great content :)

Idran
>>36581162

I dunno about that; there's no benefit to changing school year or birthday, and nothing in the episode suggests that Moloch was doing random subtle changes to mess with people. Plus, neither birthdate was right for Buffy. I think it's more likely they screwed up on the record, the mistake in her school year was caught and corrected (and her birthday wasn't established yet, so they just tweaked it to better match her school year), and in editing they took takes from both before and after the fix and didn't notice

Mark Zima
>>36581162

Sophmore was correct, and we know this because of future episodes. The fact that Buffy's school record changes to senior immediately after she comes to Moloch's attention IS the thing in the episode that suggests that Moloch is doing subtle changes to mess with people. I think that one should always favor hypotheses based on the episode as is, over ones that need to propose an editing error to be viable.

Damon Pearcy

the corkscrew earing was not for the ear but for the nipple. one of the many NSFW references.
