So two weeks ago we attempted to recall the plot of You Only Live Twice from memory, after having last watched the movie in 2021. This week, we all watched the Nick Cage vehicle (get it) Gone in 60 Seconds a matter of days before recording and somehow remembered it even less.Joining us is returning champion, friend of the show, photographer and automotive journalist Victoria Scott! You can find her at https://bsky.app/profile/victoriascott.bsky.socialand support her work at https://www.patreon.com/vantimevictoria

FREE PALESTINE

Hey, Devon here. As you well know I've been working with a few gazan families to raise money for their daily living costs in the genocide. We're putting all our energy into this one campaign as we have a real chance to get Ahmed and his family out of Gaza. Please, if you can help in any way, be that by donating yourself or sharing the link with friends and family, it will mean the world to me.https://chuffed.org/project/124906-help-ahmed-and-family-evacuate-gaza

Skate Bush

Cool to know that Dev has the same automatic stimulus response ERB autism that I do

Fupa Troopa

Yoo i used to watch this movie every week on my second hand iPod

Ben

Patiently waiting for National Treasure to appear on heist season, an actually memorable Bruckheimer film that also has Nicholas Cage.

Rachel K

Absolutely not miffed at all that on Da Big Car List, ‘Rachel’ is a previous year model luxury sedan. The exotic and rare muscle cars I get, but why are they stealing some of these? Also, the GT500 is much cooler when it’s blue with white stripes

ZombieDwarf

Oh, that's a VERY promising tag list.

Jack Fennell

Fucken sweet. The best movie ever to feature someone threatening a chair to make a bad guy back off; I can't wait to listen.

Noblese Oblahaj

If these guys existed today they'd all be spending thousands of dollars a month on a niche SFM Patreon artist that made anthro cars fuck

Noblese Oblahaj

Are y'all gonna do Argo? It was kind of a heist movie and it seems like the kind of thing that would have many November digressions. I. Sure Abby's inside knowledge of the CIA would also be great

Kstoff

Victoria episode 🎉

The Paladin Breakstar

Mildly disappointed that they never discussed how the score has an angelic voice going "aaaahhhAAAAHH" every time Alexis Texas engages in foreplay with a car. That is stuck in my brain eternally.

Rachel K

Yoo, Victoria with the Gunsmith Cats shoutout

James Rule

I now need to see the original Gone In 60 Seconds.

Fupa Troopa

Low Rider is a song from the 70's

Tariq Moustapha

I look forward to the Tony Macaroni cut of this episode from the KJB Highlights channel.

miniplane

1. november said you're moving from heist movies to car movies and i got scared, i need y'all to watch the national treasure movies! i'm dying to know how those watch from a non-american perspective. points in their favor: they have nicholas cage! in the second one they break into buckingham palace! definitely stuff to say about american masculinity and also whiteness! 2. i can't believe none of you called him hannah montana

Nicholas Arnold

The original Gone in 60 Seconds is not a good movie and would be a terrible episode, and everyone should watch it.

BarFly

"Back when being into men was gay" is an incredible phrase.

BarFly

Delroy Lindo AND Chi McBride?!

Alex

Woodfinger? I hardly know her…. I’ll see myself out

Nah

did this mf really say wood type pokemon

Wolfman Jack

Alexis Texas. Phoenix Marie... We're getting to know our hosts rather well 👍

Hey mind your business, name's not important

I had a thought about a season. Car/driving movies. Speed Racer, Vanishing Point, Two Lane Blacktop, Baby Driver, Cannonball Run, and Drive. But not the Fast and Furious Saga, that is a season unto itself.

Sammi

I don't know why, but the almost-sex scene between Angelina Jolie and Nicolas Cage in this film made me more viscerally uncomfortable than anything I've seen in a movie in a long time. And to clarify, I watched this film today after seeing the episode come out.

Tall Jeff

Abby was on Musicalsplaining and did Lindsay’s audiobook so she could reach out to Kaveh who, like every LA area Persian at the time apparently, has a role in it.

Ros

Delighted to hear the cries of joy for Christopher Eccleston - j'adore.

cole d

Strongly seconding the Nat Treasure movies, they're great. I'd wager their clue-discovering process is better than Dan Brown's but probably not all that clever in hindsight. Hearing what Brits think of them would be interesting for sure

AngryOldManYaddaYadda

I'll add one more driving/crime film to your list: 1984's The Hit, with Terence Stamp.

iaguz

Robert Duvall was in another Bruckheimer flick; Days of Thunder. He's all about driving the cars slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Sammi

I ended up looking up their ages btw, Nicolas Cage was 37 when this came out I think, and Angelina Jolie was 25. Also I swear she looks just like Jaheira from BG3 in this.

Josh Anderson

I love Nova’s Justin Roczniak moment when she begins to lose control of the podcast

Mark Schwagner

I think we found KJB's "John Taliban." The Great Escapades of Melvis Bel & Frep (or Freb?)!

Sammi

Also, they're calling two different characters Frep because there's two characters who's whole deal is "Extraneous young idiot who gets in the way." I was only able to tell them apart because one of them looks exactly like Zac Oyama.

Public Universal Foe

Devon I just want you to know that although every other host mistook November Rain for your co-host, I still got the jojolands reference

Lay-Tex-Lips

Now im just imagining Gone In 60 Seconds remade as the plot of a Game Changer episode

SylvieJ

I'd add Days of Thunder, Driven, Rush, Grand Prix, Ford v Ferrari, Le Mans, and Talladega Nights lol, not all of these are good or even tolerable but it could be good podcast fodder

Joseph B

Did we actually make it through this entire episode without a single Jackie Daytona from Tucson Arizonia reference?

bobbler42

30:00ish…big fan of December Cornwall’s work, though.

Lay-Tex-Lips

Wait if he’s weak to steel then he wouldn’t be grass type, so I guess he would be a Sudowoodo?

Ghostly

I have been bombarded with more place that exists based names than I cared to know about

Heather

My understanding is that the stereotype of Black people being unable to swim comes from the fact that they were banned from swimming pools and beaches and other places where they'd have an opportunity to learn how. NOT GREAT

Brian Danger Hicks

I'm just imagining what if you had to watch a movie that takes place at an abbey in Devon during November.

NervesNebula

Listening to this while working with toxic substances in an unventilated college dorm room 👍

Strike3

I thought it was also a racially charged refrence to how Gorrillas could not swim.

Strike3

Or Dani Californa

Strike3

You gotta do couple of Patreon episodes on Death Race and Death Race 2000. They're also both racist but I think the original is trying to be Toung and Cheek about it. There is a bit where the announcer says "and back by popular audience demand, NAZIS!!!" Which suggest a level of Saterical Piss Take on these kind of car films.

Mark Schwagner

When the crew mentioned the Stephen Hunter review it sent me down a rabbit hole and was wondering, if you could fine an angle (genre, decade, something else), would anyone else like to hear a future episode related to SCUMing film critics?

Mark Schwagner

The guy who directed this also Directed Swordfish (not a car movie) but does also prominently feature an HJ scene!

Winson Paine

It is that plus 1800s era race science that proved with reason beyond all doubt that some flavors of human had denser bones or muscle tissue or some other hot nonsense so they were less suited to swimming or whatever. It is where a lot of gender essentialism got formalized and codified too.

Its Devon Babeyyy

IF THERES ONE THING IVE LEARNED THIS GAME IS ABOUT MOTHER FUCKING MONEY

Mythopoeist

I think it's probably something like "We don't let slaves swim because then they'd make it across the river to a free state".

Mythopoeist

Lightning McQueen x Nicholas Cage isn't something I ever wanted to picture, but here we are.

Comicgeekery

In my continuing campaign to get you to do an episode on Bound (early Wachowski sisters film, incredible EXPLICIT lesbian protagonists, brilliant yet simple heist), I feel should mention that it DOES have multiple (lesbian) handjobs. Since that's what you're looking for now. 😉 It's also just a really good movie!

Bee

Holy shit I was literally coming here to make the same suggestion Bound 1996 is a robbery and Heist film.

Comicgeekery

Yeeeeeeees! Thank you for supporting the cause!

P.A.L.

I'm sorry, Devon is correct, the Boost (or as it is to me forever the Moro) is a perfectly decent bar.

Jacob King

Gone In Sixty Seconds was a pivotal moment in my understanding that a movie can contain elements I like (Angelina Jolie, car chases, crime) and yet still be bad. A step on my way to having good taste. I enjoyed the episode, I remembered nothing except the song Low Rider.

Patrick Lopez

So I was 19 when this came out, the exact target audience, and I'm here to tell you that Angelina Jolie WAS the selling point of this movie. She was HEEEEAVILY marketed.

Jermy

Re the woodworking coffin making: boards are boards are boards, joints are joints are joints, you would use the same skills and techniques as cabinetry just with different plans and maybe cut angles. He probably also would have made a mockup out of a cheaper wood before attempting the final project, so he might be skilled, but it’s not as if he’d never done anything like it before

Jermy

I’ve heard people say all of these, except for the gorilla one. From white and black people

Aeris Willow

idk if this is on your radar, but an episode about the movie amubuLAnce (2022) would be so great. directed by michael bay, jake gylenhaal attempts a bank heist and ends up hijacking an ambulance. atrocious mess of a movie, but it is still fun

pollyglot

"they make out in the car, in a way where she straddles the gear shift in a way that makes it looks like her cock" "he says [..] transmission" obviously that's just car speak for tranny, certified chaser behaviour. they're even fucking in a car!

MythicalMothman

Aw yeah, loved the Gunsmith Cats mention.

Zipzapzop

You’ve got to get Victoria back on to talk Death Race 2000

RodediahK

Is blues brothers a car movie? taxi might be fun to get a pre fast and the furious euro car movie.

Dr Grasshopper

Satoshi Tajiri, creator of Gunsmith Cats, also an all time cars guy™

scara b

the oceans 11 (2001) of car chase movies. this is/was on tv like nearly all the time in the US

scara b

the other guy who designed Eleanor's family spent like 20 years suing everyone who modified shelby GTs saying they had a trademark on junk mods

khaliqtessi

Good episode gang 👍. Looking forward to the Jobs Italian perhaps. Also do the likes of National Treasure, Tomb Raider, and Indiana Joneses belong in heist season or History Mystery season or something? Also also you should probably invite Victoria back for a less racist movie next time.

-Kris-

"fleshy pulsating muscle tubes that nestle around the teeth" - mentally picturing a Mind Flayer

-Kris-

I'm surprised Duncan Idaho didn't make the name list

Chloe Lynch

Cadfael mini season, go!

House Chaos

Fuck yeah, Best Of Toney M Compilation Album Vol. II: Crossing the States!

Benjamin Sagan

"He puts on the whole armor of boosting"- underappreciated line

beanis

goon in 60 seconds

Ross Nolan

I'm delighted Victoria mentioned 'Josie and the Pussycats', one of my favourites. I'm genuinely a little surprised they haven't covered it as a bonus episode already.

The Mad Scientist's toolkit

I have heard the black people can't swim stereotype. It has a dark history. Not so much as a stereotype but why generations of black children in America weren't taught to swim up to the 1970s.

not real

Everyday I wish for Nic Cage season of KJB

weronika mamuna

hey, so. The Handmaiden would fit the Robbery Szn. and have some interesting things to say re: treating women like objects, homosociality etc.

Johannes

I long for the Triple X Episode

Andrew MacKinnon

No mention of guy we love to see Timothy Olyphant as Cop Jr. trying to catch Albany NewYork with the power of racism and misogyny.

Andrew MacKinnon

To see the Color from Colour out of Space branded as just a pinky purple?

Moonwatcher13

Devon's scream of agony around minute 20 regarding their total lack of memory confirmed this as one of the all-time great episodes, at least as far as "host is being tortured" is concerned

Bex

As a queer woman with a Subaru Outback named Dana (after the L Word), I think loving your car and talking to her is based and culture.

Bex

Doesn't it also trace itself back to desegregation and pools with black patrons being poisoned/acid thrown in them?

The Mad Scientist's toolkit

Yes, and further back preventing slaves from escaping. Like I said it's a dark history but I'm not an authority on the subject

arbitrary-fascinations

This is where my ADHD ass being so behind on these is fun, because Delroy Lindo has since had one of the best roles in years

Australian Estuary Pirate

1:07:30 I don't fear the thousand women that would break me. (November is being a bad influence on me, I'm not even a lesbian, lol.)

Clef (they-them)

I mean, magenta as the Colour makes sense because magenta literally doesn't exist
