Someone DM'd to request that we upload the free episodes here too so that they're all on the same RSS feed for convenience, so we'll be doing that going forward.

Here's our inaugural episode on the 1962 film Dr No.

Well finally bit the bullet and subbed to the patron! Now to listen to all the bonus episodes and lament how listening to the pod was easier using Podbean.

Patreon creates an RSS feed for you if you subscribe! I've never used podbean specifically but podcast apps should just let you paste the RSS link, and it takes care of the rest

Years ago I fixed my laser disc player because someone gave me discs. Once it was working, first thing I see is 'three blind mice' and I was depressed. Going down the stack of laser discs I skipped all three copies of "the fugitive" and went to the Alfred Hitchcock pile and although the image quality was the worst I've seen on laser disc, good weird content though. New that disc set was likely $40, but it would have been terrible quality when it was new (some look really good)

Bond respects these people so little that they could have been saying "flammenwerfer" instead of "dragon" and he'd have treated them the same

Andrew Dunn

Book context: Interestingly, the weapon replacement / evaluation scene was because he had been Klebbed at the end of from Russia with Love. His gun had snagged when he tried to draw it on Klebb. To go to Jamaica and investigate the murder was supposed to be an insultingly easy task. Also, he and Quarrel have known each other for years and are very close to this point, Quarrel trains him to dive, and Bond is heartbroken and enraged by his death. There is no "fetch my shoes" in the book. Also, I never interpreted the Smith & Wesson line as implying that he was carrying a revolver, although their revolvers would have been much more common so I suppose that makes sense. There is no equivalent scene or character in the books. Bond vomits after he kills the centipede in the books.

NowhereMan661

Idk, Quarrel being his friend doesn't exactly excuse the fact that he's still a black character who dies for the white character to feel sad about.

Laughed so hard that I cried at the window bit? Check.

SpookyPenguin

This was a cracking first ep. The 'stupid policeman' drop made me realize it must have been the inspiration for Pink Panther, it's a perfect description for Clouseau, an anti-Bond.

Paintmekala

During the description of the verbal war, I just kept cheering, "Yes! Drag that Socttish mother fucker!"

I wondered about the grapes for ages too, but realised nutrition pills/food in pellet form was an ubiquitous trope in 50s/60s sci-fi. If they were going for a super-high-tech idea, it was pretty much assumed among the Elon Musks of the time that they'd be the food of the future. Right along with the flying cars and return of domestic slavery. They got one half-right, but even then, they never got around to inventing the robot bit. So anyway, they considered what food pills would look like and thought, obviously, little coloured balls. So what looks like little coloured balls, that they wouldn't have to spend money on props designing? Answer comes, send a runner to Sainsbury's for a punnet of grapes.

Alice, GBP 6000 in 1962 is equivalent to GBP 130,913.21 in 2020. Just FYI.

My mother and I were listening as we cuddled my 9 day old nephew when my sister walked in and asked "what on earth are you exposing him to?" 2 minutes later she's wheeze laughing at blowing your evil budget on a fish window

Laughed until I couldn't breathe and then gave money A+ will listen again

Myla
