The Bourne identity introduces us to a man raised by fishermen, a man with no memory of his past but in possession of a set of incredible skills.... Join us as we unravel the mystery of just who this man is- oh hold on the third scene in the movie is a cutaway scene to the CIA where they explain exactly who he is in no uncertain terms. Ah,

i am more than a year late here, but you can absolutely stab someone with a biro pen, i have done it

Bran Mac Muffin

Really late, but I thought of the team when I saw CinemaStix do an episode on the Bourne Identity called "yep, turns out the movie still works without all the exposition" where they hypothesise a rewrite. It turns out there's a fan-cut called 'The Ludlum Edit' where it follows the book more accurately and you don't see the CIA until Bourne calls them.

GhostMedic

How am I the only person who caught the account number starts with 000-7

NowhereMan661

There really should be a re-edited version of the movie that cuts out the CIA meeting stuff and keeps the mystery going.

In an old place of work, we frequently took a man whose name was David Webb (now sadly deceased). I knew I had found a good partner when we went to this patient one time and looked at each other and went “Jesus Christ, it’s Jason Bourne!”

Kobal Deux

I know it's been years and years, but : if you love spy shit and loved this movie, read the franco-belgian comic book "XIII", from which 90% of this movie is lifted from. It's quite good... for a while. Then it kinds of spins its wheels and huffs its own farts for the rest of the run.

The motive for the assassination is so weird. We already know all kinds of deeply evil shit that the CIA has done in Africa, and we know who's accountable. And that knowledge has made absolutely no difference to the CIA or its ability to commit terrorism across the world.

Elsie Hupp

Ah, you got to that movie with Franka Potente and… that guy. It’s the movie where Franka Potente does some pretty wicked driving! Pity it was that guy instead of her who got an extended franchise out of it…

TawnyBee

An added benefit of wearing my mask, is that people on the morning train, can't see me grinning like a maniac all through the trip.

Stuart Clark

I find the idea of Treadstone Glasgow so funny. Imagine joining the CIA Europe hit squad, expecting a life of Bond-esque intrigue in Paris or Berlin, and getting assigned to Glasgow station.

obliteron

Alice confirmed for brick

Christine Pizan

Oh my God its Jason bourne hype! Three excellent if flawed movies, followed by two pieces of utter shit

Christine Pizan

speaking of depressed eurovibes, bourne without depressed shitty eurovibes isn't true bourne imo, while i like ultimatum its a shame it spent so much time in new york; and the shit one on greengrass's return couldn't capture those same eurovibes, as alice said they were of a bygone age

Noblese Oblahaj

One of your best episodes. Very insightful. Loved it.

Noblese Oblahaj

Also just want to say, if you're like me and love spy shit, and loved this movie: DO NOT READ THE BOOK. IT IS MISONYGIST TRASH. Every good moment will be spoiled by the book spitting in your eyes, repeatedly. Made it to around 80% through and went 'fuck this' and walked out on a book.

Christine Pizan

i read all 3 books as a teen, they suck so bad, no wonder the only thing the films took of them is the basic conceit and some names

Orlando

Way back in OHMSS you all mentioned that if Lazenby had agreed to come back for more movies Tracy's death would have been at the start of the next film rather than the end of OHMSS. And you saying the love interest is killed off right at the start of the second Borne movie made me realize I would absolutely hate OHMSS if it had done that instead. So yay Lazenby, never letting them make him do a sequel made his only movie better for it

Christine Pizan

i also read one of the books from after he died, and it makes the 3 originals look shakespearian by comparison its so shite

JoeNotCharles

The talk of the interchangeable CIA and military in the "Respecting the Troops" analysis made me think of another bonus episode to suggest: the 2010 A-Team movie, which had a very interesting mix of "this is actually a lot more topical and thoughtful than I expected" and "this is really uncomfortable, actually. "

Cate Kneale

I like this film. This film is good. I'm also looking forward to Abi's video essay on sex in films to find out when being slammed against a wall or mirror became hot. This seems to happen a lot and I don't know why slight concussion is sexy. (You should still also do The Spy Who Dumped Me.)

Drew Flanagan

Do "The Spy Who Came in From the Cold" with Richard Burton?

Dana Himrich

I thought "Professor Chimp" was going to be the funniest line I heard someone say today, but you upped the ante on that by saying "Professor Chimp with his sniper rifle."

NoVa Motion Pictures

If you want to see more Franke Potente, you need to see "Run Lola Run" which is sort of an action movie about action itself. Lots of great moments in it.

*crosses her fingers for to see some Andy Sidaris movies on here in the future*

just saw Bourne Ultimatum and in my opinion, its the best out the three but fuck it's depressing I thought it was chillingly representative about how the US government feels about journalists, civilians, politicians etc. that question how the US operates. I cried several times throughout the movie, something I did not expect to do

Justine

I don't fuck with Jason Bourne

Morgan Vega

he wasn't "raised by fishermen", lol, they just scooped him out of the sea that one time.

cant wait for the inevitable 20 minutes of jokes that come out of A) the pills in legacy which will be compared to all manor of transition related drugs, and B) the fact that one of the characters in ultimatum is a guardian journalist and the related terf jokes, truly a smorgasbord for the transes

YukiNukem64x

Wow, really got my hopes up there, thought for a moment that the fishermen didn't pull Bourne out of the sea but in fact raised him from perdition :'(
