Its the final episode of Season 2, and we decided to watch one more Stallone movie just to say goodbye to the big fella himself- And what better than Demolition Man?

We recorded this one at the end of four hours of continuous podcasting and we were all insane and variably inebriated. Enjoy!------THE MOVIES ARE ON STRIKE!SAG-AFTRA and the WGA are both on strike for a number of reasons, from pay for streaming residuals, to the rights to own your own appearance, to the right to not have AIs trained off your work.So if you've got a few spare pennies, why not chip in to help keep movies from becoming Shit Forever.https://entertainmentcommunity.org/https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/the-snacklist-support-striking-workersAnd if you're in the UK, the UCU could still do with some helphttps://www.ucu.org.uk/fightingfund------*WEB DESIGN ALERT* Tom Allen is a friend of the show (and the designer behind our website). I’m a simple them, I see the 9/11 tag for a movie made before 2001, I hit the like button.

Hedrigal

The relationship America has with the concept of cities is fucking wild.

Hedrigal

Predictive programming confirmed.

Luke

I feel it’s my duty to inform everyone that “taco pizza” (which Abby said as a joke) is in fact a real thing here in the Midwest

Ryan McWilliams

@36:50 - Abigail is thinking of Last Action Hero, where there's a poster for Terminator 2 starring Stallone, because of meta movie-within-movie reasons.

AnyaTopp, Mistress of the Truck

The movie with "Alternate Terminator" was a Schwarzenegger movie called "Last Action Hero", where his fictional detective comes out of the film into the real world. It also had a cameo from T-1000 as a cop as played by Robert Patrick

Aron Hellsten

when you all mentioned the pizza hut/taco bell scene i almost had a stroke until abi mentioned her version had pizza hut. I grew up with this movie as a go to thing (no clue why, my dad liked it i think) and that part with pizza hut is etched into my mind. i genuinely did not know it was edited for europe. although english is not my first language so that might explain why i didnt pick up on the terrible voiceover back then.

Luke

I never thought of keeping the lettuce separate! The oven does a good job of crisping up the chips again but then the lettuce is cooked too

Dorley Hall's Tame Racing Driver: Wings of Theve

Yeah I ran in to the same problem as Abi, I remembered it being Taco Bell when I first watched it years ago, but *legally acquired* it again recently and it's the damn pizza hut cut! I did some digging (aka reading the wiki article) and it turns out that basically Taco Bell didn't really have a foothold in Europe yet so they substituted it for Pizza Hut which had more locations and therefore they figured it'd be more relatable. Absolutely silly decision imo, Taco Bell would have been even funnier if you barely knew what one was IMO

Emilio Porras Vergara

I've taken to wearing dressing gowns when home, they are fairly close to kimonos and they do give you a sort of leisurely post-scarcity attitude towards life.

Totally Useless

Observing people learning about the Taco Bell replacement with Pizza Hut it real time is great.

Cat Meier

I really liked this episode right up until the end. But, uh, the "apartment destroyed by 9/11" thing is not actually as weird, unusual or merely trauma-adjacent as you seem to think it is.

Aidan Sullivan

Rip Van Winkle is an American folk tale about a man living in british colonial America who falls asleep for 20 years. When he wakes up the American revolution has taken place. It's not the most well known story but it is ubiquitous enough that it hadn't occurred to me that people from outside the US wouldn't get the reference (which is very American of me ☹️).

The Curious Case of Caley V

Just started and now just waiting for the inevitable “That’s a beautiful H&K G11” comment….. don’t let me down 😂

Felicity Hall

What makes the homophobic caricature worse is he is acting opposite Nigel Hawthorne (Sir Humphrey from Yes Minister) a man who was gay and wanted it kept private and was outed in 1995

Josh Karpoff

I have a friend who had been working as a temp at Cantor-Fitzgerald financial services in the WTC on 9/11, but survived because she was late to work because her printer at home wouldn't print her temp work assignment info and she missed her train into the city. She came off her commuter train at GCT to find out that a plane had just hit the first tower.

TalkativeTiger

Starting to wonder if Wesley Snipes didn't pay his taxes because he thought the US government had something to do with destroying his record collection.

Rustysteelpipe

That last 20 minutes almost did me in. Crippling wheezing laughter.

Mike Crotch - Harvey

I went into a proustian reverie when I saw that image of the pinball table

Zeroisanumber

Once went to a Planet Hollywood restaurant with my folks and directly above our table was this huge chunk of plastic with a nude Sly Stallone mannequin stuck in the middle of it.

Edwin Bent

The Pizza Hut Cut revelation made me pause the podcast and walk around, this is so fucking (BUZZZZZ) funny to me I can’t. Like, how was this decision made? Which other things did they consider changing? Was this the inspiration for the 2007 remake of Funny Games?

Cretin

The phrases "Consumption makes you sexy" and "Consumption is cool" are hilarious when you think about consumption as an old word for TB

Sam Price

*AEGHHHHH* Nukes Audios, You Are Fined 1 Credit For A Violation Of The Verbal Morality Statute...

Meonlights

NowI feel like listenint to the Tombstone episode again.

Meonlights

I will never get Alice calling the Try Guys "The Buzzfeed Five Guys" out of my head... ever again xD

Karl Childers

extremely funny that in an episode with a swear buzzer, in which the word "pussy" is buzzed and discussed, the phrase "serving cunt" is used by every host multiple times and passes entirely unnoticed

BarFly

When I think about 80s-90s futuristic design in movies, I remember how Robocop used the Ford Taurus, the sedan my grandma had, as the future cop cars because it was an early example of modern aerodynamic design and it looked so damn different from like, the boxy LTD of the same era.

Bashfash

MTV painted a big Demolition Man poster on a building in Louisville, Kentucky and flew in Stallone for a big event where it was demolished.

Ros

Deranged vibes in this one and I still have 40 mins left, just marvellous.

Zeroisanumber

Listening at work and the Wesley Snipes apartment bit had me laughing so hard that I had to pull my truck off to the side of the road.

Cameron

I loved the episode, one day I hope you guys check out Masaaki Yuasa's Ino-Oh its just beautiful

ifthen

Seattle is protected from Tsunami by Puget Sound. The bigger concerns here are A- a big earthquake will cause all of downtown to slide into the sound, B - Tahoma (Mt Rainier) will erupt at some point.

brodie

Please never coordinate what version of movies you guys watch because if you did we would never know of the pizza cut

Phasmique

Tears in my eyes from laughing listening to the pizza hut/taco bell/Mandela effect segment 🫡

G Goldhar

"Jet fuel can't melt steel beams but you know what it can melt? MG Exia Dark Matter. Loved that fucking thing...."

Vivian Scott

talking about the personal connection to 9/11 thing, I'm getting bottom surgery on 9/11 this year and I plan to make a lot of jokes about it

G Goldhar

hey nice, my mom's getting her new leg then and I said it'll be nice to see you standing again and then cast a wistful gaze to the ceiling 'Unlike those towers...'

Patrick Lopez

I'm so glad to hear you guys liked this movie. Yes it's FASCIST, but it's still a ton of fun and has some great lines.

Patrick Lopez

Abi, the "time travel movie" you're thinking of is Last Action Hero - that's where Stallone played Terminator.

Violet

The topology of Seattle is such that there are a bunch of places that can be evacuated to throughout the city in case of a tsunami. The issue is the earthquake itself.

Violet

Also, Schwarzenegger didn't get close to being President, because it would have required a constitutional amendment to let him be President.

Penwize

Grateful to learn that on the 9/11-to-transgender movie subject spectrum, that Demolition Man was not about being trans.

John Leavitt

The production design joke where Sandra Bullock’s character’s “perfect 20th century apartment” confuses a conversation pit with an in ground pool had me reeling, very motel of the mysteries joke

Bryce Chambers

Blind Spot alert. Because the hosts were (a) children, and (b) not American; they completely miss that Wesley Snipes is heavily Dennis Rodman coded. And Rodmans's gender stuff and the famous wedding dress would've been great conversation.

Nick Fredman

Wesley Snipes killed in 9/11 would have meant he finished the brilliant Blade 2 but not been in the execrable Blade Trinity so a mercy really.

Saint Augustin

Rip to Wesley Snipes signed copy of Aladin Sane 😔✊

Franklin Paradukes Webb

Did anyone else clock that the font for the sign on the wall saying "Hall of Violence" looks exactly like the Diablo font?

Noblese Oblahaj

Y'all should do Blade 1 and 2 because they're stupid but fun movies with Wesley Snipes.

Kobal Deux

In case y'all coulda been wondering, the reason for the Pizza Hut Cut is that in 199whatever (or indeed today, as far as I know) there were no Taco Bell franchises in Europe. So TB didn't want to shell out for the product placement. Pizza Hut did, with minimum redub effort because capitalsim and also who cares, this is not CINEMA, c'mon.

Aniyunwea Greyotter

You guys know that Sylvester Stallone is NOT a terribly big guy, right? Luke, she's bulky AF, obv., but he's like 5'9 TOPS. Like, Abi could just whack-a-mole a bitch.

Joyous Uwu

I was listening on a long drive just yesterday, as I tend to run behind on my podcasts. On the subject of being highly inconvenienced by tragedy, my closest aunt (maternal) lived in an apartment one of the WTC buildings that was neither hit, suffered structural issues, or experienced fire (despite the WTYP episodes, I am not fully familiar with the particulars of every building involved). I am not aware if this was the same building where Mr. Snipes had an apartment. My mother tried to contact her sister all day, but eventually that evening phone lines cleared enough for her to call out to people. She was already on her way to work and in the subway when the planes struck. If I recall, she learned of the attack when she reached her stop and disembarked. I cannot know her thoughts in that moment, but she told us that there was worry for security, a sort of resentment ("Ey, I'm livin' heah"), and a personal sense of relief, as if she dodged a bullet she did not imagine coming. All apartments in her building were unlivable after the collapses for several months (nine for my aunt), as some had smoke damage and all had quite a bit of the famously toxic dust from the WTC towers. I don't think the ironic humor set in for a long time, as my aunt has a more serious personality. However, this worked in her favor, as she has always been particularly timely when it comes to her taxes. 🤓

There's something very funny about kicking off a YouTube channel with an apology video, especially if it's for a made up offense

-Kris-

Who put... AI Ben Shapiro in charge of the swear jar?

-Kris-

I was about to bring it up, but Alice beat me to it. Fitting that she would be the one to know that the San Andreas Fault has nothing on Cascadia

-Kris-

In Soyviet future, TV is on you

-Kris-

I hope you enjoyed this brief mention of the Torment Nexus, cause it will not be reappearing

Trevor Gilmore

Seattleite here - the only thing that will kill you here are falling trees and branches in our very frequent wind storms. People worry about tsunamis and then jog through a forest in 60mph winds 😑😑😑

2na

Where did you get the verbal morality act voicelines from?

Cube mine

Is there any chance you can be convinced to watch "Once Were Warriors" in a bonus episode?

Emily Kugler

Love this. If we hadn’t need the season of solidarity, I was going to recommend his comedy of manners/period price Oscar but this is perfect

Vault Tec Rep

The ace/aro version of sex I knew we always needed lol. No kissing + emotional intimacy? Sign me the fuck up *swear buzzer🚨 noise

A_GingerIdiot

Watched this film a couple months ago with some friends and I swear the VR sex is stated to be a product of the AIDS crisis, unless I’m misremembering. Like the implication is that the crisis got so bad that physical sex, and indeed physical contact on a wide scale, was outlawed?

Twi

Plastic suit is a violation of the fashion morality statute

Katie Gilmour

As others have said the Stallone as Terminator movie is Last Action Hero, which I remember as being an underrated Arnie movie. It would be good to hear an Arnie season in the future. As well as all the obvious ‘80s action movies, he has True Lies which I’d predict might be the best movie to get the highest Scum score. But other movies like Kindergarten Cop are predicated on the idea that a big dude teaching kindergarten is inherently amusing and unlikely.

Sublight Monster

Living in Japan, my toilet has a washlet unit with three large buttons. I have the three seashells! Also, we’ve had several Catholic PMs, why not a Pope?

Sublight Monster

The Cocteau plan is standard billionaire psychosis: he gets to shape society to his every whim and make everyone follow his rules, but the 0.1% that don’t kiss his ass are driving him absolutely batshit.

MagneticRose

55:54 fdjdjklsds 🤣🤣🤣

Wolfman Jack

You must, MUST watch "Last Action Hero".

louis funke

At 33:57 Devon swears while saying the buzzer for swearing is always mixed in, and there’s no buzzer for that particular swear. Which they control? Mistake or deliberate? Who watches the watchers ect ect, nice touch, unless it was just a mistake and I’m just over thinking it
