Hi everyone!

This weeks tutorial is this painting of a whale splashing out of the waves. This one is really simple and so much fun to paint!

Supplies:

  • Paints - I used Liquitex basics: titanium white, light blue permanent, bright aqua green, brilliant blue, ultramarine blue, prussian blue, mars black and neutral grey. If you don't have these exact colours just use a range of blues from light to dark.

  • Brushes - large wide flat (background), small filbert (whale), slanted (lines), small pointed (eye), fan (splatters)

  • Paper towel (for splash effect)

  • Canvas - I used an 8" x 8" canvas panel, but any size will work.

I used this tracing technique to get the line drawing/reference photo onto my canvas from my ipad: https://youtu.be/tRiES5zEd-Y

This technique works really well if you are using a small canvas!

I hope you enjoy painting this one 🎨
