A colourful zebra to brighten your day β˜€οΈ

This is the first of the tutorial requests, lots more to come soon!

Supplies used:

  • Liquitex acrylic paints - medium magenta, fluorescent pink, cadmium orange, primary yellow, red oxide, yellow oxide, quinacridone magenta, deep violet, brilliant purple, prussian blue, light blue permanent, mars black

  • Paintbrushes - Wide flat (background), small filbert, small pointed

  • Canvas - I used an 8" x 8" canvas panel - it was pretty small for so much detail!

  • I have uploaded the reference photo and line drawing to this post.

Happy painting 🎨

Yay I'm so glad you like it! I hope you enjoy painting it 😊❀️

I love it! I think it will be fun! I am not much of a drawer so getting the template is my biggest challenge. Unusually paint on 16x20 canvas’ so it’s a bit tricky to print out the drawing template to teacher Ont the canvas- I noticed you said you did this on an 8x8 canvas.

Rachel Froud Art

If you want to trace it onto a 16x20 canvas then the best way would probably be to print the template onto a few sheets of paper (so the design is spread across multiple sheets - and is the right size for the canvas). Then just tape the sheets together and trace it from there. Alternatively another technique I often use when working on bigger canvases is the grid technique (video tutorial here: https://youtu.be/8drKVyN2ZO0 ). This might take a little bit of practicing but it is way easier than freehand drawing. I hope this helps 😊

Awesome thank you soo much for the tips! I think I’ll watch the video you sent & try the grid technique.

Cat

Hi Rachel, I love following your work! Do you have the elephant tutorial? He looks amazing 😍 I can't find him

Rachel Froud Art

Hi Cat, thanks so much! Unfortunately I painted that one before I started filming tutorials. But I can paint another similar colourful elephant and make a tutorial for that if you'd like 😊
