Something a little bit different today! I thought it would be fun to practice some looser painting techniques and painting by eye. Exploring different ways of painting is a great way to build confidence and improve our skills.

In this painting session, weโ€™ll be painting a vase of colourful flowers. Try not to worry too much about how the finished painting will look, itโ€™s more about enjoying the process than creating a perfect finished piece. Taking that pressure away can make painting feel much more relaxed and enjoyable!

Weโ€™ll build up the painting using simple shapes and loose brushwork to create these colourful flowers.

Supplies used:

  • Liquitex acrylic paints - titanium white, pyrolle red, quinacridone magenta, primary yellow, yellow oxide, ultramarine blue, phthalo blue, mars black

  • Paintbrushes - use larger brushes so we don't get too focussed on small details! Try to experiment with different shapes and sizes to see which you prefer working with and the different marks they make

  • I'm working on an 8" x 8" sheet. If your canvas is larger then try using larger brushes
