Hey! A quick tutorial today showing you how I paint the first layer of my paintings. This piece will be an abstract whale once finished! I usually create under paintings mainly to get some colour on the canvas, as starting on a blank canvas can be quite daunting. I also like how some of the colour shows through after painting additional layers over the top.

Materials used:
- Liquitex basics acrylic paint (light blue permanent, turquoise blue and medium magenta)
- Liquitex glazing medium
- Spray bottle
- Water

Let me know if you have any questions at all! I'll be adding the video for the second layer soon :)

I love your paintings. I know this painting was a few months ago, but I’d like to try it too;) so I was wondering, how big the canvas was? And what brushes you used? If you remember ;D

Thank you! I think this canvas was 30 x 48 inches! I used quite large paintbrushes, I can’t remember the exact ones. I also used my hands as I find that creates a really cool texture on larger paintings! This is a really fun painting to experiment with different techniques so I’d try out any brushes etc that you have to see the different effects you can create 😊
