Hey! This is the first video in the stag painting series. This is a huge painting which took me quite a few days to paint, so I have split the tutorials up into four separate videos. This video is for the pastel sunset background.

Materials used:
- Liquitex acrylic paints (first layer) - titanium white, medium yellow, medium magenta, brilliant purple, light blue permanent

- Golden open acrylic paints (second layer) - titanium white, hansa yellow opaque, quinacridone magenta, ultramarine violet, cerulean blue

Golden open paints are a type of acrylic paint that have a really long drying time. I decided to use them on this painting because I wanted to blend the colours, and because the canvas is so big I was worried that regular acrylic paints would dry before I could blend them. If you are painting on a smaller canvas then regular acrylic paints will work fine!

- Brushes - I used a large paintbrush to paint the first layer. A slightly smaller brush to add the paint onto the second layer, and then a large round brush to blend the paint together in a circular motion.

Hi,if you use normal acrylic, what consistency do you use? Straight out of the tube or do you use a bit of water. Or maybe a medium?

I usually just use it straight out of the tube, (if I'm doing a quick wash layer to cover the canvas then I'll add some water). Sometimes I'll add a medium - if I want it to be more textured I'll add a heavy body gel to the paint (I usually use the Liquitex one).
