Hey everyone! We’re gearing up for the first shows of 2026, which will be two episodes of Joe’s Shelf. I could have made Ryan suffer after the Radioactive Dreams debacle by curating a double-feature of Hellzapoppin’ and Bella Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla… BUT I figured it would be better to pick a couple of movies that relate to our last video on Rich Little’s Christmas Carol.

So for the main episode, I have chosen Murder by Death - Neil Simon’s 1976 mystery satire which features several performances that relate directly to characters we saw Mr. Little so lovingly bring to life.

For the Patreon show, I’ve chosen Play It Again, Sam - the 1972 adaptation of Woody Allen’s stage play that Rich was clearly tapping into with his own Bogart impression. It’s also interesting for being one of the only Woody Allen movies not directed by Woody Allen.

I would imagine we’ll also do a movie catch-up at some point, covering some of the stuff we each watched over 2025… or at least Ryan can listen to me rant about Man vs. Baby for 2 hours.

In any event, we should be getting to the first episode next week and I hope you’re excited about these picks!

I, for one, appreciate a clear and concise post like this deliberate about what's coming up next. And as somebody is both totally unashamed of being a male of European origin and works in the female dominated field of general education, I shut off Man v Baby before the end of the first episode.

I haven't gotten to Man vs Baby yet. Is it.. not good??

It made me never want to hear Rowan Atkinson speak again and I worship the man.

Joe's corruption arch continues into 2026

Ive heard a few people from different podcasts bring up Play it again, sam in the past month, and its making me want to watch it again. Its just one of the few Woody Allen movies I've seen only once. And thats prime Woody. It was I think Woody's first broadway show originally. There is no doubt about it, he's a genius

Nice! I just picked up Murder By Death from the library, I’ll have to watch it, before I listen to this.

That’s pretty unfortunate, because for what it was I enjoyed Man vs Bee.
