Being that one of our favorite controversial celebrities has a documentary out on his life and career, we figured it would be worth watching and discussing. This conversation took us on many tangents where we discuss the downfall of SNL, celebrity ego, Kurt Russell, the state of comedy, and of course Chevy's disastrous talk-show. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, we give to you... The Chevy Chase Defense.

Am I the first comment? Also when are you guys going to do Altmans "Short Cuts"??

Jason Patterson

I've always heard he was a difficult ego, and as fame faded and he aged it only got worse (Dan Harmon, Community) But on Gilbert's podcast Beverly D'Angelo said that Chevy was a lovely person, and that his private, secluded life (Ala Johnny Carson) fed the rumor mill. Like nothing to print, so let's inflate every rumor about him being difficult

Luke Gordnier

Wow for the first time in the history of the show, Ryan will not be attacked for daring to besmirched a popular comedy that a lot of people like unless there’s crazy people out there to defend the later seasons of community.

Joe's Music Hub

This is why I stay subscribed to you guys. It’s nice to see a film podcast take the piss on Hollywood as opposed to kissing its ass.

Lonnie Geraghty

Could you guys do a whole episode about your sketch comedy days? I’m a guy in my early 20s in film school also with sketch comedy ambitions and I’d like to get some advice from you cool cats.

Nate Gonzales

"Don't blame Kevin Smith" is a sentence I'd never thought Ryan could say

Luke Gordnier

It was counter culture and now is culture perfectly describes why the simpsons fell to shit as well.

Heath Chamerski

I know it’s a long shot but would love you to interview Aykroyd someday. I feel like if anyone could get stories about Nothing but Trouble it would you guys!

John-Paul

Imho SNL ---- which has always been hit or miss, since the beginning ---- is still hit or miss though I like some of the newer cast members and think it's been more hit than miss recently. As for "The Simpsons": it was great the first 7 or 8 seasons then became near unwatchable but they brought new writers over the last couple of seasons and it's very good again imho.

Jason Patterson

I alost forgot! Joe, ask Pat his Dan Aykroyd story when he was a page

Simple Jacker

Yeah, I still love Chevy. Couldn't care less if he's supposedly a prick. The guy's an icon. Joe. Would you consider talking about either Shakes The Clown, or Airheads some time? They're both a couple of hugely underrated '90s comedies

Spect Serg

I would love to see a patreon exclusive weekend update hosted by Ryan!

Brad Surfield

The documentary was okay. Way too many cutaways for my liking (the Ryan Reynolds interlude made my skin blotch out in hives!), though I concur that Jay Chandrasekhar seems like a genuine guy and in many ways, was the highlight of the film. The viral clip that has gone about... I do wonder... When I saw it before watching the full doc, I thought "okay, what did she say to him to get that sort of response?". I assumed that there would be some build up to that moment in the film, but it appears the same way it appeared virally. It was like she was purposely poking someone that is well known for having a short fuse. It's dishonest and unfair to totally write Chevy off based on that one moment. The Terry Sweeney story is a bit more difficult to shrug off. I think Chevy probably was quite unpleasant to him, but challenging an old man who suffers from memory loss is a pretty low move on the documentarian's part and again, just seems like they were just trying to get a reaction out of him for the sake of it. We all know that he's kind of an asshole, but the deliberate attempts to make him look even worse, just made me sympathise with him more.
