Someone asked for a list of the various aliens and what magic they had.

Kaedekin

Our heroines... mostly. They come in two types.

Girls: The less numerous of the species, Girl-type Kaedekin are clones of Kaede, a magical girl from another universe. The primary form of magic they're decanted with is Thaumaturgy, which allows them to create pseudomatter whose density, volume, and shape they can control, as well as emit and detect psuedo-electromagnetic wavelengths. In uncommon instances, Girls are decanted with a form of Thaumaturgy that has a special 'elemental' variant. Such variants include but are not limited to:

Temperature

Gravity

Time

Lightning

Acid/Corrosion

Even more rarely, girls can be decanted with a form of magic other than Thaumaturgy. An incomplete list of the forms of magic that have manifested for the past centuries are:

Pyrotheurgy/Flame

Spiritualism

Symbolism

Tenebrætry

Aquatheurgy

Anthrowyrmism

Phaustry

Buddies: The more numerous of the Kaedekin, Buddy-type Kaedekin were originally conceived as clones of Lyrica, but could not be proper clone due to hardware and software limitations. They begin as highly advanced Artificial Intelligence programs compiled by Lyrica, derived from human-made code from Magical Girl Association affiliates such as Amber Laboratories (a maker of monster-fighting combat robot maids which most certainly do not have any lewd functions, we are a family friendly all-ages robot lab! No cat brains were used in the making of our fine maids!) and Magical (Robot) Girl Steel Princess, installed on hardware derived from Tai Enlightech Corporation quantum processing chips. Regular use as magical assistance tools, emotional attachment, anthropomorphizing by the little sisters they're paired with, and internal components specifically designed to passively trap loose magic causes them to develop into spirits. Buddies can spiritually synchronize with their girls a form of voluntary partial possession, allowing for expanded capabilities.

Free Trade Confederacy

Aliens from outer space!

Humans: A species known for being both mind-numbingly boring and maniacally violent. Suffers from what seems to be a species-wide delusion that magic doesn't exist, with any proof to the contrary simply rationalized away as being the result of swamp gas from a weather balloon being trapped in a thermal pocket and reflecting the light from Venus, CGI, gangs on some sort of mind-altering drugs, fireworks, advertising stunts, or the hallucinations resulting from not sleeping enough. Their species has admitted to possessing two forms of magic:

Pyrotheurgy/Flame

Symbolism.

They Who Change Through Life/'Changers': a highly intelligent and long-lived species who appear to be mobile bags of selectively permeable transparent membrane surrounding thick and viscous slime, which can reach up to a meter in height. They are one of the human's longest-standing allies, and the first intelligent species they made contact with.

Cultivation of Essence

Symbolism

Pajhadin: A species very notable for not having eyes and not perceiving the physical universe with electromagnetic radiation. Humans believe they perceive through echolocation, even when echolocation would actually be impossible. Tall and thin with an average height of 240 cm, their skin ranges from coal black, dark purple and dark gray. They have four tentacles sprouting from their back, long thin limbs, long elfin ears, and wide mouth filled with sharp triangular teeth. They 'see' using darkness, specifically, they can perceive the dimensions of objects in shadowed and dark areas, provided there is only on contiguous layer of material physically blocking their line of perception. The darker it is in an area, the more fine their perception becomes.

Symbolism

Horotracting

Necroturgy

Rakido: the rakido are large, strong, long-lived and very intelligent people. Their bilaterally symmetrical upright biped bodies (humanoid? Ooh, you racist!) reach an average of 220cm in height integrate a lot of metal in their biology, with their bones and the horns sprouting from their foreheads being made of much heavier elements than calcium, having evolved in a world with a high metal content. Not unlike humans, they have different skin colors and phenotypes depending on the region of their world they came from, and varieties include green, blue, red, yellow and light gray skin.

Symbolism

Kydlathiantry

Vitaturgy

Tiwada: a species with bodies composed of a cellulose like material, this species has an average height of 60cm, with a known maximum of around 110 cm. They primarily subsist on a mix of starches from plants and photosynthesis, and their lower limbs can penetrate the ground to extract moisture from soil. Physically very weak.

Whispering

Symbolism

Hegemony of Free Peoples ("Shinkamrai Hegemony")

More aliens from outer space!

Shinkamrai: Formerly the bioengineered slave-soldiers of the Tsokeri, the Shinkamrai are hexapeds who are on average 330cm in height. They have hard exoskeletons, compound eyes, spikes sheathed into their forearms, and have four long limbs that allow them a very large jumping range both vertically and horizontally.

Kivhar: Originally created by and made in the image of a hyper-sexualized Tsokeri, the kivhar are hexapeds with one pair of legs, one pair of arms and one pair of wings, and have an average height of 170 cm. Their bodies are covered in relatively soft yellow plates separated by areas of black, which they can shift to give them a degree of control over the general dimensions of their bodies, especially in the specific areas that the Tsokeri fetishized. Their soft transparent wings are capable of a limited degree of true flight.

Mirha: Originally created by the Tsokeri as assassins and saboteurs, usually in inter-Tsokeri politics. They are hexapods with two pairs of arms and one pair of legs, made with slim and lightweight bodies. Their limbs are tipped with claws that let them find purchase on sufficiently soft or textured vertical surfaces as well as some kinds of ceilings. Each of their four arms contains a venom gland with different kinds of venom, which are administered through a hollow retractable spike on their inner forearm.

Anthrowyrmism. Idk what this means, but it sounds like they can turn into magic worms. What is this, Dune? Phaustry. This one sounds fake. "Faux-stry" 😆 I can't remember the detals previously mentioned, but it's interesting that different species largely have different magic, except that everyone has Symbolism.

To be honest, the names of magics that weren't explained here or in Demesne don't tell much. Which of Kaedekin magics is being Seers like Ai? Hopefully Hegemony will ask for the whole explanation of magic and we'll get it too.

I mean, SCM2814 seems to be a prime example of a (good) author of the meme archetype: damn, I built this wonderful universe and magic system and everything (and at least three parallel universe histories, possibly more if Rian is an isekai) and now is thinking of how to show off their wonderful creation. What makes them a good or perhaps even great author is discipline and the ability to still set character driven stories with believable characters that are not the "chosen ones" in the world to slowly unveil PARTS of the world. Really, it is absolutely admirable, they obviously have put immense thought into all the macic systems and how the universe works but are just able to, well, NOT talk about it. I always get giddy with excitement when new dragon facts get introduced, BECAUSE they restrain themselves. And that introductory chapter in Demesne when the first dragon comes is AMAZING. And because our wonderful author refuses to elaborate on dragons except tiny tidbits unless it would come up natuarlly in a conversation between characters it stays a mythical concept. Oh and as a final note, if you haven't read it yet go read Flipping Haunted Houses for profit, I think that was the first time we got symbolism explained and got some introduction to the human allies species - though in that universe they live with humanity on earth during the time the story is set. And I will not spoil how symbolism is introduced in that stoey, but it neatly adheres to what the non-human "QE" thought to himself when the despairing human QE talked about symbols

Can Thaumaturgy also detect matter (the same way it can detect EM waves)? Can thaumaturgy also emit and detect non-EM radiation and particle beams? Or is thaumaturgy strictly the pseudomatter and Kaedekin have Light as a standard elemental variant?

SCM2814

No and no. They can get creative by using vennglow for radar and spectrgraphy, though. The pseudomatter emits light that's the same color as the Kaedekin's eyes. This can be toggled on and off.

Menthewarp

I am amused by the idea of Kaedekin toggling on-and-off their eyes.

SCM2814

Symbolism is primal. It's very soft that way, because it's literally the power of love/hope/rage/etc.

SCM2814

Thank you for saying so! You're going to LOVE what I have in mind for dragons here.
