First of all, I am pro the country in which I live and a Patriot. However, I will call a spade a spade - even if it is unpleasant or blunt.

Second - well done to SG - they know how to execute and PS I own 2 Singaporean Companies now - $BTDR and $SE

Third, the next 3 are all special.

The United States has dropped out of the top 10 in the 2024 World Competitiveness Ranking, a significant shift that raises concerns about its economic competitiveness. The country now ranks behind Singapore, Switzerland, and Denmark, among others.

I find this both shocking and expected for the following reasons:

  • Economic health is awful - but govt stats will tell you all is fine

  • Closing borders to talent is a real issue - meanwhile illegals can just run across the Southen border

  • The current govt stifles innovation and pays no respect to those that truly make a difference and know how to allocate capital

  • Tech made the US what it is - losing that edge is a serious issue. Again Govts should do all they can to foster innovation not regulate them to death and weaponize the justice system against them

  • Regulations and legal system is a mess - Delaware Judge case in point.

  • Hostility towards new industries like Crypto is a mistake ....

  • International policies suck

  • The U.S. faces a ton of challenges, including aging infrastructure, rising debt levels, and political polarization, crappy education etc. These issues, if not addressed, could further erode the country's competitiveness.

As British Hodl says, the top places to live in the future will be the smaller countries & micro states that have the ability to attract wealth whilst governing over a smaller population

Mbolorman

Same could be said of the Uk.

My mind agrees, my heart is insisting that if any country can turn the tides, it is UK. At lrast, I very much would like to be so!

Xponential Future

No doubt DEI is a factor in the reduction of American competitive excellence. MLK famously said, judge a man by the content of his character, not the color of the skin I would add to that any other superficial characteristic such as sexual preference meritocracy is the only way.

Agree. On DE - At my work place, a new department created out of it and the amount of money these pips are getting is unbelievable 😳 Milking it big time.

The US makes its money by selling war… the tax payer is on the hook for the debt while the Military Industrial Complex rakes in the cash. For every bomb dropped a school wasn’t built.

Vox Stoica

All the top 10 have populations comparable to a large city. In a digital world where people can move when they're being treated badly, small countries and city-states are the future.

I think USA should exempt businesses under $1m from most tax and other regulations... So many people can't go after their dreams because the barrier to entry is so complicated and unfair to the little guy

HappyBoo

I think, maybe, the top three requirements for a country to be competitive these days are: a) low population; b) meritocracy encouraged and c) country should rank high in the CPI Index (Corruption Perceptions Index).
