Thank you James for everything. M1 is a subset of M2, not the reverse.

I hope that they can repair and stand up Kamala must be crypto friendly and supporter in order to win this election

Crypto Monte

You sure about that? The stock and crypto markets keep setting new highs and are thriving under the current administration. The entire world suffered through high inflation because of all the money printing during the pandemic. Who was president when the national debt spiked by $10trillion. As a fiscal conservative, I typically vote Republican but definitely not this time. DJT made too many devastating mistakes using his “smart brain” and instincts. Research why gas prices spiked after the pandemic. It’s the same reason that so many oil rigs in the U.S. were shut down under Trump.

To anyone in Crypto that thinks the Dems embracing the space is good. The only reason they might do it is for votes. Once elected they will continue their assault on our assets just like they have in the past. Warren, Gensler, Kamala they are all the same.

redoak

They are more radical left than Biden. Right there with Bernie. If they win we are in deep Sh_t

AlphaBet

Correct. It’s amazing to me that you have to explain this to people.

James your M1 and M2 classification in your talk is wrong. M2 is always larger than M1 not the other way round my friend. Anyway not to worry here it is for future reference. You used monetary metrics when measuring Berkshire Hethaway performance too (you used M2 there) but remember money supply does not equal inflation either so just because BH/M2 declined over time does not mean Berkshire stock did bad. Here is the difference. Cheers ... Money is measured with several definitions: M1 includes currency and money in checking accounts (demand deposits). Traveler's checks are also a component of M1, but are declining in use. M2 includes all of M1, plus savings deposits, time deposits like certificates of deposit, and money market funds.

doesn't M2 expansion now imply future inflation anyways? My mental model is that it is just delayed. For example, during Covid there was a lot of printing that went first into asset prices and later trickled down to the whole economy. As investors get richer they upgrade their lifestyle and that trickles down as spending to the whole economy over multiple years

Your mental model is correct. Milton friedman says inflation is always a monetary problem but asset price bubbles are also a form of inflation. It is not a true wealth creation metric. Here is data for US and I also calculated Berkshire Hethaway performance over 30 years. BH has beaten both M2 and CPI. That was my point. On another note, changes in M2 is not in the hands of the government or FED only. Banks also create money by issuing loans on deposits. Warren Buffett owns BoFA and his portfolio company also creates M2 and it benefits BH's bottom line. Hope this helps.
