Europe's Declining Global Market Share

Europe's share of the global stock market has been steadily declining over the past few decades. In 2000, European stocks made up about 30% of the global market capitalization. By 2023, this had fallen to around 15%.If this trend continues unabated, Europe's global market share could potentially shrink even further in the coming years.

At the pace of the last 20 years, Europe's weight in the global stock market will head toward 'zero'! Of course, it is theoretically possible but not likely, but something is wrong with Europe. They are falling behind fast.

Deindustrialization is picking up speed. For the first time in its 87-year history, VW is planning to shutter factories in Germany—a move that breaks w/tradition and could lead to conflict w/unions.

I live in Germany. The problem here is not the energy prices, that was a quick flash. It's that they failed to build housing for a decade while importing millions of zero-skill refugees, and now spend something like 6% of the federal budget taking care of freeloaders instead of investing that money in infrastructure. Plus, they have an absurd housing shortage in all the major cities where they NEED to import top talent. But you can't import talent if there is nowhere for them to live. Good people do not want to pay NYC or London level rents while getting taxed 40% for lower wages. I'm here because I'm in Berlin and I got one of the few cheap rents left, otherwise I'd have left as well. Germany is paralyzed by leftist wingnuts who shut down nuclear power and switched to coal "for the environment". The incompetence is mindblowing. As a result of frustration with these morons, we're seeing a massive rise in voting for the AfD, who are basically Neo-nazis. I don't think this sudden surge is because Germans became more racist, but rather their frustration with the situation has grown to the point where many are just saying "fuck it, anything to get rid of these idiots running the show". The rest of Europe seems to be similar. Spectacular incompetence at immigration, failure to build housing or invest in infrastructure, and regulating everyone to death while supporting freeloaders and useless bureaucrats (Germany has lifetime appointments for "beamters", it's insane). It's still a wonderful place to live, but they need to get their shit together. Purge the freeloading hordes both in government and without, and take that money and re-invest in infrastructure, housing, and inventives for entrepreneurs and companies to build here again.

I live in Austria and it's exactly as you described. However, it must also be said that as a consequence of WW2, it would have been socially impossible for a long time to speak out against immigrants and be elected by the masses. And that was understandable, because it was exactly this electorate that went through hell on earth because of the Nazis. Only since the wave of immigration in 2015 with all its negative consequences and as a result of the Syrian war has there been a clear shift to the right, which is also becoming more accepted again. However, the problem with the housing situation is definitely home-made and a clear failure on the part of politicians. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic that we will master our situation and regain our former strength.

We are wasting money on immigrants instead of investing these resources in innovation

Love these one liners! Realism can be a bitch! The world is the Lord and the fullness thereof! Nations that forget God shall turn into hell! There shall be nashing of teeth! Time is the master, it reveals all things at the proper time and era! The pursuit of truth encompasses peace, love and understanding! Education paves the way to everlasting enlightenment! Hope is my strategy in these contexts.🙂

Where are all the protestors for VW shutting down factories in Germany, compared to Tesla brining jobs met with protests and violence.

DerSir

Talking about a strive for peace and love while, at the same time, whishing other nations to turn into hell if they believe in something different. What could possibly go wrong lol 💁‍♂️

I moved to Cyprus from Germany a few years ago. In the beginning I did it to not pay 40% taxes but now I tell everyone that the biggest benefit of moving away was to not be bothered with insane amounts if bureaucratic nonsense all the time. Even within the EU there are differences and while Cyprus still has to deal with the EU regulations, they appreciate business owners bringing employment and money into the country. So to all my European friends: see you in our new home Cyprus!

Same graph but for North America please

The anti-growth faction in Germany is insane, no doubt.

Americans work hard ... However, the average retiree from Boeing only lives 8 months... And those ones weren't assassinated ... That's what a C Suite Exec there told me

How about some comparison countries? Statements like this are absurd, "Europe's weight in the global stock market will head toward 'zero'!". What does that even mean? Any reduction is 'heading toward zero'. Come on James.

Horrifying? It’s a little exaggerated. Euro still buys you 3 times more than Dollar for an overall higher standard of living in Europe. (Starting with water, food, environment etc.)

I've been reading recently about the bank runs in Cyprus 2013, government stole money from customers banks accounts over 100,000 euro, it was a deal they did with EU due to the financial crisis, they just took it. The biggest loosers were the ones who transferred their wealth to Cyprus, business owners, start ups and those that just saved money from their wages. I'd be very cautious moving to any EU country right now.
