Gold has shown remarkable strength in 2024, trading significantly above its 200-day moving average (DMA). In contrast, Bitcoin is currently trading below its 200 DMA.

Year-to-Date Performance

Despite the narrative that gold is outperforming Bitcoin, the reality presents a different picture:

  • Gold: Up 23% year-to-date, marking its best performance in a decade.

  • Bitcoin: Up 32% year-to-date, still outpacing gold's gains.

Market Perception vs. Reality

While there has been considerable media attention on gold's impressive run, Bitcoin continues to deliver superior returns. This highlights the importance of looking beyond headlines and examining actual performance metrics.

Long-Term Perspective

It's worth noting that while gold has had an exceptional year, Bitcoin's historical performance over longer periods remains significantly higher. For instance, a $1 investment in Bitcoin 14 years ago would be worth over $67 million today, compared to $1.92 for gold.

Many of us in this community believe Bitcoin is the "digital gold", which may end up being true. But the Gold Bugs are our brothers and sisters in the anti-fiat, sound money army. However the future plays out, hodlers of Bitcoin AND holders of Gold will both have preserved their purchasing power compared to fiat... different paths to the same destination.

$67 Million? I think your math is way off James, there were no exchanges back then, you could either mine BTC or try & meet someone willing to sell. There were very few people in the World who had access to BTC 14 years ago. In January 2010 I was offered BTC at 9 cents, it was trading between 4-6 cents. That's 11.11 Bitcoin per $1.00

That long term prospective stat blew my mind !!

When bitcoin overcomes gold market cap? 🤓

Can't teach an old dog new tricks. A too-high proportion of the world's wealthy are ancient, but that is gradually changing. Of course there are exceptions, such as anybody here. No offence intended to any of you.

Now that is quite the picture to paint! 😆😆

I wish I knew about a $1 bitcoin back then. I first heard of it at $8 and actually looked into it a bit, but I wasn't really as tech savvy as it appeared you needed to be then. That and also thought it was some sort of scam or ponzi. Them the breaks I guess.
