Good news for markets, not really reacting yet but one gray swan has gone away.

The port strike that had been affecting operations along the U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast has concluded, thanks to a tentative agreement reached between the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). This agreement, which focuses on wage increases, has led to an immediate cessation of the strike, which began due to the expiration of a previous contract and disagreements over compensation and automation.

Terms of the Agreement: The deal includes a significant wage hike of around 62% over six years, one of the key demands from the union. Additionally, the existing contract has been extended until January 15, 2025, to allow for further negotiations on other contract issues.

I understand the source need for unions but they need to be abolished. They really do hurt their members (not leaders), cause industry problems (production controls, costing, etc), and have hurt so many tertiary people & industries. In another industry I've dealt a lot with this kind of fighting everything causes the outsourcing/automation because companies can't survive and continue to deal with this.

Translation: wait until after the election to hold the country hostage.

That sadly would be one way to try to wreck an incoming administration.

I'm wondering did anyone see the coverage of the union leaders' own home and 5 car garage? His house is huge, worth 7 million I think was the number. Plus several luxury cars. He makes 700k a year apparently and is worth a small fortune. Good work if you can get it.

This might sound jaded but from personal and indirect experience at any ports. Nothing against the port workers either but there is a lot of corruption, drug trafficking and bribery involved and at stake with more automation. Might be why they are fighting so hard against it. Similarly, I just talked with a train engineer who said they are fight automation as well. There use to be 3 engineers on a train, now it’s 2 and the they are going to go to one next and already talking about fully automated trains in the not to distant future. Unions are fighting but it won’t last. They said engineers caused too many derailments from falling asleep and not paying attention. They now have cameras on the trains and there is still human error. FSD here we go!!!!!!!!

Union members ARE ADULTS right? Then WHY they need to be TOLD what to do with this CORRUPT UNION LEADER??? DECIDE YOUR OWN FAITH, MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION FOR U & YOUR FAMILY.

I had a similar experience in logistics, many nice people but from some I got offers to buy stolen electronics within the first week of working there.

Hopefully about 80% of the government grifters get fired with trumps efficiency commission.

62% in terms of dollars: $4/hour increase over the next six years. The greater issue is automation. Automation/robots can create a utopia or a dystopia. I hope Elon continues to focus on the utopian possibilities, but it is also on us as investors to choose our future.
