I am proud to announce my membership with your influencer media to all of my friends and family because you expose each and every heartfelt concern and judgement you have. Im sharing Daniel with you again below. In 1970, The Pentagon Papers were published as our classmates graduated and headed off for service to their country or to university if they had the grades. When the NY Times started leaking the material our drafting class at the trade school became a hot bed for debate between so called patriots and “long hairs”; the 16-18 year old brothers of returning Army vets who were a class or two ahead of us. We received our draft cards on our 17th birthday which was when we either graduated or had one year left. Those whose mothers were “the first ones on your their block to have their boy come home in a box (Country Joe and the Fish) were infuriated by General Westmorland’s exposed weekly body count lies and shenanigans and some of us turned our flags upside down and became the first round of educators who used the PP exposed reality that we were unlikely to have anything more than continued loss following the strategy without a strategy. I was a bit different. Pop had been in WWII Philippines, I craved his love and headed off for testing. Good thing they didn’t take me, would have been chewed-up. We lost Daniel Ellsberg last year at 93 years old. He was the actual first-author of our nuclear strategy produced by Rand for the Pentagon and his last book The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner Hardcover – December 5, 2017 took the Pentagon Papers and extended the entire history of nuclear war tactics and strategy from 1949 through present day. The most shocking element is the failure to rewrite the in-force controls on deciding to escalate from tactical conventional to tactical limited range field nukes to the strategic dispatch of 350M citizens of the Sino-Asian countries. That- of course was in the first few hours of the war after the Titan II ICBMS delivered their MERVS. The original strategy NSC-68 presented to Harry Truman claimed the Soviets were building thousands of warheads when in-fact they had less than 100 in 1962 as documented in the public domain CIA reports today. Yet we were moving beyond our B52s to the silo based ICBMS whose boosters were my Pops chief project 1958-1964. Pop liked to calculate wind drift and radiation spread when we moved to new locations. Your fears are legit James. A rumored decapitation event in DC or Moscow is the worse case scenario as it calls for an immediate strategic response from senior leaders in the field. That hasn’t changed in 62 years. The policy limiting medium range tactical nuke exchange created byReagan and Gorbachev is long lost with Vlad in charge. The missals delivering conventional warheads in the present Ukraine conflict are also used to carry nuclear payloads. The decision to use them is moved to the lowest level if certain messages are not conveyed correctly. Let us be fully aware of the threat. Lets us plug our ears when any politicians vomit their unsubstantiated rhetoric on how they believe wars are planned and fought. A good primer is Mr. Ellsbergs Doomsday. After all, why not listen to the horses mouth instead of his rear end. I am a proponent of moving all nuclear warheads off shore and on to our silent service subs. A first step to disarmament if we ever have the opportunity again. The subs are the perfect MAD solution , they are able to push their periscopes up in what appear to be land locked areas of the world, deliver special ops teams and powerful weapons to remove terrorist threats and or stop international bravado on demand…in very short order. The disarmament of land based nukes limits the in country target zones, preserving life and infrastructure. If you are interested in this subject James, please use your talents to explore the truth and activate the international audience you enjoy. I am frightened too.
