Microsoft shareholders rejected a proposal to include Bitcoin in the company's balance sheet during the annual meeting on December 10, 2024. The proposal by the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) suggested that Microsoft should assess whether adding Bitcoin could benefit shareholders by diversifying profits, with a recommendation to invest 1% to 5% of profits in BTC. Despite arguments highlighting Bitcoin's potential to create significant value and examples from other companies like MicroStrategy and BlackRock, Microsoft's board advised against it, citing Bitcoin's volatility and the company's existing treasury management strategies. The vote followed the board's recommendation, with shareholders deciding against adopting the cryptocurrency.
