The data highlights a striking paradox in the US healthcare system. Despite spending significantly more on healthcare per person ($12,555 in 2022) than any other wealthy nation - over $4,000 more than the next highest-spending country - the US has the lowest life expectancy among peer nations.

Key Statistics

  • US life expectancy: 77 years

  • Japan's life expectancy: 84.1 years (highest), with much lower spending

  • US healthcare spending: Nearly double that of similar wealthy nations

Reasons?

I am not a Dr but since both my parents died of cancer - first parent over 25 years ago Ive been obsessed with prevention, nutrition and lifestyle. I have some ideas as to why the US is so bad - i hope my observations do not offend:

  • DIET - the US diet is deadly, I ate a piece of pizza with workers last weekend - I would swear it nearly killed me. It was not food. Company was Roundtable.

  • Medical focus is treatment and not prevention - most Drs will never tell you to lose 10 kg or run 5 miles a day or eat clean - but they will prescribe you all the drugs you want!!!!!

  • Obesity means also that USA has highest rates of multiple chronic conditions or comorbidities ... I hope I got that right.

CONCLUSION

More spend does not mean more health. The system is clearly broken.

HEALTH IS WEALTH - we have all made a lot of money here... now the focus should be to living as long as we can and watch our assets grow... in our abundant future. Stay healthy my friends - I know I harp on Health a lot but it comes from a life of seeing cancer ravage not 1 but 3 family members.

Thank you James for everything your are doing! I am lurking around since I literally usually only have time to watch your videos while driving and reading your (actually all my) emails once every few days. I wish I had a wise advisor like you 25 years ago... But hey, better late than never! Fortunately I've been obsessed with health pretty much all my life - reading, listening, watching everything I can put my hands on. In a way I would rather take this than the way around, since if we loose our health, money no longer matter....
