Rule Number 47: ROMO (Risk of Missing Out)
Rule Dujour Rule Number 47, introduces the concept of ROMO - Risk of Missing Out - as a more strategic approach to investment decisions compared to the often impulsive FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
Key Principles of ROMO:
Strategic Entry: ROMO acknowledges that perfect timing is hard, but the risk of not snagging a bag for me is higher than trying to nail the exact bottom to the dollar. Instead, it focuses on entering positions at reasonable levels, understanding that minor price differences are insignificant in the long run.
Layered Approach: Rather than attempting to time the market perfectly, ROMO uses my layered entry strategy. I pick my spots, wait for trend reversals and triple down each layer ie first layer was a nibble eg 10 shares, second layer 30 shares, 3rd layer 100 shares etc. This involves gradually building a position at different price points. The lower it goes, the harder I go. Like an amplified DCA on Steroids.
Long-Term Vision: ROMO prioritizes the big picture over short-term fluctuations. It emphasizes the importance of identifying assets with significant long-term potential. My plan is to get to 50% Tesla over the next 12 months. If I flipped my MSTR into TSLA today I would be 74% TESLA!
Calculated Risk: Unlike FOMO, which often leads to impulsive decisions, ROMO involves a more calculated assessment of the risks and potential rewards
ROMO negates Missing Out: Eg When SOL tanked to $8 many decided to wait for $5. Not me. Sub $10 was already a miracle and I had my long term bull target of $120 for 2025 (which we have already smoked). Meta at $96 was the exact same.
Emotional Control: ROMO helps investors maintain composure during market volatility by focusing on the long-term plan rather than short-term price movements!
Application Example: Tesla Investment
The Tesla investment scenario illustrates the ROMO principle in action:
Instead of waiting for the perfect entry point, I layered in at various levels across various vehicles eg Buying Stock, Options and Rotation from MSTR into TSLA.
The focus remains on the long-term target of $2000+, making the difference between entry points like $330, $340, or $350 less significant.
By applying ROMO, you mitigate the stress of trying to time the market perfectly while still capitalizing on promising opportunities.
