Rivian reported cumulative losses since inception of 23,305 million as of December 2024. We are not aware of any company in the U.S. with a larger balance sheet loss (not even close).

They lose over $40,000 on every car they sell and sales have dried up as the Cybertruck has eaten their lunch. Far more car and it drives itself for equivalent money.

FINANCIALS

Complete horror show - anyone that gives them money needs their head examined. Debt about to exceed cash and they lose a fortune each year... now growth slowing fast. Rivian's CEO, RJ Scaringe, reaffirmed the company's goal of achieving profitability by the end of 2024 multiple times throughout the year. Not even remotely in the same universe.

THE RIVN LIFELINE

The Biden Admin gave them a $6.6 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), announced in November 2024 and finalized in January 2025, was intended to revive Rivian’s stalled factory project in Georgia. This facility, meant to produce the more affordable R2 and R3 models (starting at $45,000), is critical to Rivian’s long-term growth. However that could be revoked under the current admin.

I am not ready so short yet... but if it spikes I will. I am not anti RIVN, they are the best US EV maker after Tesla... but they have no path to Autonomy.

Fun fact- Tesla released its first production model in 2008, the Roadster. The first year Tesla turned a profit was 2020. So, from first car on the road to profitability was 12 years! How many people back then said Tesla had no path forward? Answer: A crap ton. Rivian rolled out the R1T in 2022. Should we wait until 2034 to call their demise or keep fluffing Elon about how wonderful Tesla is?

The problem is Rivian is up against a competitor that has already nailed everything Rivian should be right now. Tesla back then had no competition so could develop with relative ease. All Rivian has is automotive products and huge debt. If your not at the top of your game in this day and age of electrification and making profits your toast.
