Darius Dale Interview Summary
A few folks asked me to write up a quick summary on the show today. Breaking it all down into simple terms
Macro 42 Investment Strategy
He is rather different from me. He believes in a very simple allocation that is 60% into the S&P 500 index ETF 30% into gold and 10% into bitcoin. I am a little bit upside down on this strategy if you include my microstrategy and I would never own Gold. Granted it had the best 12 months in the last 12 years for Gold just now. My strategy is much more about exercising winners, and having very high concentration bets in very few assets that are in the middle of massive disruption.
Key Macro Points:
Market Regime: Currently in a "risk-on" market regime, but with potential for volatility and chop due to policy uncertainty (particularly related to the Trump administration).Ie BULL MARKET is not over.
Tariffs: The current president may be using tariffs as a negotiation tactic rather than a concrete policy. Implementing tariffs on Canada and Mexico would destroy the US auto industry for example - Tesla not included.
Global Debt Spiral: The US is on an unsustainable fiscal path with accelerating debt accumulation. Efforts like "Doge" (likely a reference to budget cuts) are unlikely to achieve significant deficit reduction but NOT solve the DEBT CRISIS.
Global Liquidity: Global liquidity is crucial. If it doesn't increase, a global financial crisis is possible. The FED's approach to inflation will be a key determinant of asset market performance in 2025. Ie if Global Liquidity does not rise we are toast in 2025.
Inflation: The FED may need to revise its inflation target higher. Tariffs and border security measures could contribute to inflationary pressure.
Europe: European growth is meandering higher, but European inflation is also meandering higher. Net net zero.
Government Spending: If the government didn't spend to inflate GDP growth, it would be at -7% instead of +2%.
Key AI Points:
Job Displacement: AI will lead to job losses and social unrest.
Accelerated Change: Darius agreed with me wholeheartedly that AI is accelerating the "fourth turning" cycle, possibly bringing the crisis stage closer (around 2030 or earlier). I threw this point at Darius hoping he would not agree with me but he did. Darius claimed to be a top 10 Global Authority on the Fourth Turning and is friends with Neil Howe
VC Investment: Venture Capital (VC) firms are investing far less in companies now due to the persistence of AI technology. A POC ( proof of concept) only takes $50K to prove instead of $5M Series A in the old days.
Universal Basic Income: The rise of AI could lead to calls for Universal Basic Income (UBI) and increased Medicaid spending.
Blue Collar Jobs: Skilled blue-collar jobs aka the Trades will become more valuable than white-collar jobs.
Bitcoin Bull Market Status:
Bitcoin Bull Market is Still On: The Bitcoin bull market is not over, but there's chop and uncertainty.
Top Indicators: The speaker uses a volatility-adjusted momentum signal ("Dr. Mo") to identify tops and manage Bitcoin allocations.
State Bitcoin Reserves: State Bitcoin reserves are happening and rumors of a Fort Knox audit are swirling. If Fort Knox has a hole, Bitcoin will skyrocket.
Gold: Gold is expected to rise due to mass unemployment in the US and expansion of us fiscal expenditures and budget deficits.
Overall Profound Points:
Democratization of Knowledge: Darius highlighted the trend of institutional knowledge being democratized and made available to retail investors. Also that institutions were not what they used to be in terms of predictions.
Importance of Systems: Darius emphasizes the importance of systematic processes and risk management over relying solely on forecasts.
Adaptability: The key to success is observing and responding to market signals rather than trying to predict them. I disagree here if you respond to signals, you are way too late.
Capital Allocation: Individuals need to become better capital allocators in the changing world. This is my key point, but I didn't quite get an answer from him. He was more of the opinion that you need to climb the ladder in a corporation to gain wealth and then you were fine. I don't think we have a show that it takes too long.
