As u know I find Sam Altman a touch shady. Well now it appears MSFT is getting the message!

Microsoft’s been leaning hard on OpenAI for Copilot, its flagship AI assistant baked into Microsoft 365, but now they’re exploring other options. The Information broke the story, saying Microsoft’s AI division, under Mustafa Suleyman, has been testing these rival models to see how they stack up. xAI Groke (that’s Elon Musk’s outfit), Meta, Anthropic (founded by ex-OpenAI folks), and DeepSeek (a Chinese startup making waves with cost-efficient models) are all in the mix.

Why? Not sure - maybe Sam? Or maybe cost as OpenAI’s models aren’t cheap, rem MSFT cancelled Data Center contracts? DeepSeek, for instance, claims to deliver high performance for a fraction of the price (think $0.55 per million tokens vs. OpenAI’s $15).

Microsoft’s also training its own models, dubbed MAI, to reduce reliance on OpenAI.

Also perhaps Microsoft is afraid of the suit coming from Elon re IP disputes.

Grok is already better than Open AI in a tenth of the time and nobody has the compute xAI does.

RIP ChatGPT - of course stuff takes time to die.

Institutionally, ChatGPT is the only AI being used everywhere. That or Gemini. I don’t think any company will officially be using Grok except Elon fanboys

I found CoPilot good at first but it's been increasing disappointing over time. It often gets things wrong - very wrong, and I've stopped using it as it's become frustrating. Grok however I have been pleasantly surprised! It gives very well laid out and reasoned responses. I was expecting Elon to tweak it the algorithm for his version of "free speech" and "truth" - (like the Chinese have done with DeepSeek and Tiananmen Square questions) - but Grok seems to be give some very interesting responses when asked about Elon's recent swing to the political right and his impact on the Tesla brand and TSLA share price etc. Far more balanced that I expected. Give it a try. Ask Grok about the politics of his maternal grandparents and then consider of those 2 hand moves at the MAGA rally were likely to be a "from the heart" wave ?
