How Serious Is This?

This is pretty serious for the crypto space in the EU.

The EU is banning “privacy coins”—types of cryptocurrencies that are hard or impossible to trace, like Monero (one of the reasons I felt big money would never be attracted to privacy coins because govts hate them). These coins are popular with people who care about privacy and sometimes used in illegal activities like money laundering. So the EU wants to get rid of them completely.

For businesses in the crypto space, this means more work and costs. They’ll have to keep track of who their users are, report transactions, and make sure they don’t deal with banned coins. If they don’t follow the rules, they will get fined or shut down.

What This Means for Crypto in the EU

  • No More Privacy Coins: Coins like Monero will be illegal to use in the EU starting in 2027. Exchanges will probably stop offering them, and users may need to switch to coins like Bitcoin or Ethereum, which can be tracked.

  • Stricter Monitoring: Crypto wallets and exchanges in the EU will now keep a closer eye on what users do. They’ll probably ask for ID and track all your transactions. Big Brother EU edition!

  • Costs Go Up: Crypto companies will need to build new systems to follow these rules, which means higher costs.

  • Less Innovation: Developers working on privacy-focused projects will leave the EU

Will This Push People Out of Europe?

People who want anonymous crypto might move their activity to countries with fewer restrictions, like Switzerland or some places in Asia and Latin America. Some Crypto companies also. Crypto investors may back off investing in the EU also... as the risk is too high.

As crypto becomes more mainstream with companies adopting it, etfs, wall st banks, this was bound to happen. It’s a small downside to a phenomenally exciting time ahead. I’d be more worried about DOGE digging around in everyone’s social security than this.

The EU want to quash free speech, are warmongers, are anti-business, anti-crypto and in my estimation, anti-smart.
