The world is rapidly changing. For example, If AI is currently at 4/10 in capability, expect it to reach 8/10 in a year to 18 mths which will be better than most humans. Performance doubles annually and may actually accelerate even faster as it learns to learn from itself.
If AI is now 50% as effective as you at a key task you perform, it will likely handle that task within 12 to 18 months. You need to focus on how you can leverage AI to become twice as good at your job in 12 to 18 mths. Sounds harsh but probably true. Rem pace of change is all!
A Simple 3-Step Guide for Grads: Use AI, Stay Ahead & Find What You Love
Step 1: Find What You Love - eg i like animals, I like helping people, I like designing, building, i like math, i love building models, I love breaking stuff down, I love problem solving, I love telling stories, traveling, .... if you love what you do you never have to work a day in your life. Not enough people spend time on this early, or figure it out too late.
Step 2: Learn to Analyze - understanding numbers, data, even patterns and trends is key to making smart decisions—and it’s something AI will need help with. Zoom out. I like to always imagine the world as if I am an alien looking down with no pre conceived notions of Earth or Earthlings. It crystallizes everything in my mind. Rem AI can already do the heavy lifting. Even if AI gets really good, people who can make sense of the data and explain what it means will always be valuable.
Step 3: Use AI to Boost Your Ability - learn to ask the right questions and interrogate AI - this is probably the most overlooked skill. I question everything 24/7, I spend my day asking Questions and of course answering them. That actually also sharpens my mind. ABL as I say. Always Be Learning.
TLDR
Build a career around your passions, supported by strong analytic and AI skills. Everyone can learn and it has never been easier as long as you apply yourself. Hardest part is turning up.
Oh and Pro Tip for the kids... get off social media and mobile devices. When I see kids watching TikTok all day I feel bad for them.
