Klarna, a Swedish fintech company specializing in "buy now, pay later" services, has significantly streamlined its operations through AI, as revealed by CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski in a CNBC interview on May 14, 2025. The company, which facilitates online payments by allowing consumers to defer payments or pay in installments, reduced its workforce by approximately 40% by leveraging artificial intelligence. AI likely automates key processes such as customer service, credit risk assessment, and fraud detection, enabling Klarna to handle transactions more efficiently with fewer staff while maintaining service quality for its global user base.

Don't normally make comments like this... But... I really can't stand companies like Klarna. You can put the rosiest sounding mission statement you want on it, but at the end of the day they enable and facilitate bad debt and (IMHO) are not much better than loan sharks. Awful.

These are the companies that say UBI will come but it never will. The rich will oppress the poor and keep saying that eventually lives will get better while the opposite happens.

Flaming Dollar

Yes. I fear that James is right again on this point. the only solution is to save ourselves with, among other things, heavy AI exposure.
