Before I begin - a REMINDER - ILLNESSES CAN WRECK FINANCES AND SHATTER FAMILIES—EARLY DETECTION IS YOUR MIGHTIEST WEAPON!
FDA has approved a new blood test developed by Fujirebio Diagnostics to help diagnose Alzheimer’s disease. This test uses a blood sample to detect amyloid plaques in the brain, which are abnormal protein clumps linked to Alzheimer’s. Previously, detecting these plaques required expensive and less accessible methods like PET brain scans or invasive spinal fluid tests. This blood test measures two proteins (pTau217 and beta-amyloid 1-42) in the blood, and their ratio indicates whether amyloid plaques are present, helping doctors confirm an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
What Percentage of People Are Afflicted by Alzheimer’s?
According to the information provided, nearly 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease, and this number is expected to rise to nearly 13 million in the future. This means about 2% of Americans currently have Alzheimer’s, and the prevalence could increase to around 3.8% as the population ages call it 1/25!
Why Early Detection is So Important
Early detection of Alzheimer’s is critical as Leqembi and Kisunla, can dramatically slow the progression of Alzheimer’s, but they work best when started early, before the disease causes significant brain damage. Early diagnosis allows patients to access these treatments sooner, potentially preserving cognitive function and quality of life for longer.
An early diagnosis gives patients and families time to plan for the future, including making legal, financial, and care decisions. I have personally seem too many families RAVAGED by illnesses Cancer, Alzheimers, Parkinsons etc
This blood test is a game-changer because it’s less invasive, more accessible, and potentially cheaper than older methods, making it easier for people to get diagnosed early—especially in primary care settings where Alzheimer’s symptoms are often first noticed.
