You have heard me say this 100 times, but I will repeat again because this is a new attack vector, and a very sad story! This person lost it all.

This story was inspired by Rob - DAN... Everyone and I mean EVERYONE is exposed. After seeing a friend lose ALL his life savings from a CEX and Cold Storage HACK I have been bombarded with messages like the one below. Time to STOP being so careless and take these security action steps NOW!

Step 1: Google Authenticator Cloud Backup - DISABLE RIGHT AWAY

• Why? Backup codes stored in Google’s cloud are unencrypted and vulnerable if your Google account is hacked. How to fix:

  • Open Google Authenticator.

  • Tap your profile icon → Use Authenticator without an account

  • Confirm to delete cloud backups.

Step 2: Strengthen 2FA Security

• Replace SMS 2FA with:

  • Hardware keys (e.g., Yubikey from Yubico) for phishing-resistant protection

Step 3: Secure Cold Storage Wallets

• Use air-gapped wallets (no internet connection)

• Store seed phrases separately from the wallet (e.g., steel plates or secure vaults)

• Enable multi-signature (multisig) wallets requiring multiple approvals for transactions

Step 4: Protect Against Physical Theft

• Hide wallets in fireproof safes or bank deposit boxes!

• Avoid tampered devices: Buy hardware wallets only from authorized retailers. Someone last week bought a second hand ledger and lost it all...

Step 5: Consider Safer Alternatives

• Bitcoin ETFs: Gain exposure without managing private keys (e.g., spot ETFs)

• Proxy stocks: Invest in companies like MicroStrategy, which holds Bitcoin as a treasury asset. This was a big part of my decision, making not only because I'm more comfortable with stocks and options, and finding the way to create optimal leverage, but also security risk
