Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei just went on live TV and dropped a chilling warning: AI is advancing faster than anyone imagined — and it’s about to wipe out MILLIONS of jobs.

This guy knows. He is on the front lines. He runs Anthropic. Ive been warning about this for years but here we go. This is the most chilling warning I have seen to date.

Also rem RATE OF CHANGE..... this is something humans have a tough time recognizing but not this guy.

I will try summarize what he said adding my view and math from other articles I have read since 2023 and also HOW TO SAVE YOURSELF!

TLDR

Amodei said AI could take away half of the starting office jobs in five years, which might make unemployment rise to 20%. AI could also start writing 90% of computer code in just six months and affect jobs in areas like finance, law, and consulting, especially for beginners.

Let’s look at how likely this is. AI is already good at doing things like writing code, analyzing data, and making documents, which are big parts of office work. A 2023 study by McKinsey said 30% of office tasks might be done by AI by 2030, but Amodei thinks it’ll be faster—50% of starting jobs gone by 2030. If businesses start using AI at a steady rate of 15% each year, and 60% of them use AI for office work by 2030, there’s about a 70% chance that 40-50% of these jobs could disappear.

For bigger office jobs, like mid-level lawyers or accountants, the changes might take longer—around 8 to 10 years, so by 2033-2035. These jobs need more complex thinking and personal connections, which AI can’t fully do yet. If AI improves at these harder tasks by 10% each year, there’s a 40-50% chance mid-level jobs will be affected by 2035. There’s a 90% chance entry-level tech jobs are already being changed. If only 30% of leaders and companies listen to these warnings, there’s a 70-80% chance of big problems, with unemployment possibly hitting 15-20% by 2030, starting with tech and office jobs in 2025 and growing over the next 10 years. I see the signs all over already starting with big tech and consulting.

HOW TO SURVIVE

  • Learn AI skills

  • Build a portfolio of Assets that will ride this wave.

My 18-year-old son went to college and passed his computing exams this year. He’s starts his apprenticeship to become a painter and decorator next week. Even young kids are starting to understand the world.

Im still waiting eagerly for even basic automation to come in and assist. My bank are all about AI but it's not good. A very disappointing version of chat gpt. All I see as as more and more governance and additional audits from the fed. People will always be needed. You just adapt to the tools you get and leverage what makes the business more efficient. All good, no worries about AI.

This topic about AI and job replacement is popping up in this community more and more. I like to refer all of the software engineers/programmers thinking AI won't replace them anytime soon to this article. https://waitbutwhy.com/2015/01/artificial-intelligence-revolution-1.html As stated in the article which was amazingly written over 10 years ago, you software peeps like all humans simply UNDERESTIMATE the rate/speed of change. You work with your tools and think that these AI programs won't get much better in just a year or two but you're simply wrong. Read the article, it's brilliant. I'm sorry to come across as maybe rude, but you all better wake up. And don't think learning a "trade" will make you safe. When the Optimus robot and all the other robots get going, they will be able to perform all of those blue collar jobs as well. Selfishly I'm glad I'm older. I really feel for anyone under the age of say 35 and especially for all the newborns coming into the world today. I fear unemployment worldwide is going to skyrocket which could have dramatic negative outcomes for society as a whole. When you combine bored, angry, unemployed youth with guns, it's not a good mix. The US has lots of guns. Yikes.
