TLDR

People wanted to hear 2 things

1) rate cuts

2) resignation

we heard neither.

Details:

  • Powell did not address anticipated rate cuts, despite market speculation, as the federal funds rate remains at 4.25% to 4.50%, unchanged since the May 2025 FOMC meeting

  • He also made no mention of resigning, countering recent rumors circulating among investors

  • What he did say that was imp is this - The Fed is reevaluating its approach to jobs and inflation, with Powell noting in May 2025 that the strategy around low unemployment as an inflation risk needs rethinking. CODE FOR their way of measuring stuff is all wrong.

Why is it when someone says, "There's going to be some short term pain for the long-term good of the economy" it all Lucky Charms, but when Powell doesn't feed us immediate sugar, we all scream and wail for our immediate sweet tooth. Cmon people. We've got inflation, and holding interest rates where they are inhibits it a bit. That's a good thing, in the long run, even if our immediate "pump" of our assets makes us whine.

Most people are in the "instant gratification" mindset. To quote a great investor "the markets shift the wealth from the impatient to the patient" Hmmmm wonder where I heard that? 🤔
