China's control over rare earth magnets gives it immense leverage. If China decides to restrict exports—whether for political reasons, trade disputes, or economic strategy—it could cripple industries in countries like Germany. This dependency makes other nations vulnerable to China's whims, which some might interpret as a form of economic control or coercion. The fear of becoming "slaves to China" stems from this potential for China to dictate terms, leaving other countries with little recourse.

China had amazing vision to understand the importance of rare earths decades ahead of the west, so here we are. They have locked up the supply.

Needless to say, Tesla Optimus also needs these magnets and would be crippled without them.

Tariff Negotiations as a Countermeasure

Tariffs can be used as a negotiating tool to pressure China into ensuring fair access to critical resources like rare earths. By imposing tariffs on Chinese goods, countries like the U.S. or members of the EU can signal that they’re willing to take economic action to protect their interests.

This is one thing Trump has forgotten about in terms of leverage. China has loads more leverage now.

I guess I just think it is a little out there to assume Trump just “forgot” about anything when the man is one of the few people who can be 10 moves ahead. Just because the media portrays it in a certain way doesn’t mean it’s true. But maybe I’m the naive one here, I just think there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than what is being presented publicly. I’d be hard pressed to agree with China now having “more leverage” though.
