Grok 4 can instantly provide reasoning and answers beyond graduate-level proficiency across all fields—from math and physics to humanities and law— in seconds - then the gatekeeping function of college degrees diminishes or even goes to zero.

Kids now need to learn more about the application of AI rather than rote learning.

Wonder if it can fix my Excel formula grok3/chatgpt was struggling with

I was told by coworkers BTC is silly, AI is a fad and Tesla is a car company. Being early is fun.

It's a 3 way horse race and Gemini will have the android userbase locked in. So will be interesting to see how ChatGPT and Grok nuke it out in other areas. Will ChatGPT be the iPhone integrated AI? Or just be used to make Closed AI aka Copilot for all MS office products? Where does Grok fit in all this? So many unknowns

AI is a a tool , I do not see it replacing education, college education needs to adapt and become affordable. An example: I've seen how ITESM in Mexico teaches students through practical projects, where they learn a set of skills and collaborate with students from different disciplines to complete the project. Teachers act as coaches, and there are few or no traditional classes. Students are expected to investigate and apply new knowledge to complete projects, which may last from half a term to a full term. When I went through engineering in the early 1980s I didn't quite like the team assignments because the structure wasn't great. But today, when I saw my kid go through the process, I saw how he learned quickly and enjoyed it—no nonsense classes just to earn credits. the whole curriculum is project based. Just wish it wasn't so damn expensive. My kid went to an international exchange to Gerrmany he was shocked with the traditional lectures with a teacher presenting a bunch of theory and then having to remember it for the exams, then this was offset by working as an undergradute student at Siemens where he had to learn about reusbale energy projects and write software that uses the GPT apis.

My boss says BTC is not physical so it's not real, AI makes mistakes and can't be relied on, BYD is better than Tesla, and she drives a BMW EV. I smile and nod.

I learned how to learn at University. Especially in my MSc. Personally, my practical learnings are way down my list of gains from University. I came out of university being able to process information faster, learn faster, collaborate better and understand my strengths better. I was far more confident and found myself much more easily able to position myself where I wanted/needed to be. I agree that universities are going to struggle and that actual academic knowledge will not be a gain anymore. Universities have lost there place as a hub for learning and innovation during the last decade. But we should not underestimate how crucial they have been to our development as a species nor should we ignore the absolutely privilege it is to be a student of a university. I definitely think universities need to pivot though. It's going to be a rough ride.

Couldn't agree more with your sentiment! ITESM sounds amazing.

Rethink college 👍 Great advice. Employers value being bold and stupid..... Even better advice is "Go to trade school" which is usually said by rich people that can't start their own lawn mower and drive a Cyber truck 🙄

Critical thinking is the new GOLD.

GROK apparently also leads the way in teaching kids how to be racist.

The more that I think about it, the more I think this post is absurd. James, are you suggesting we stop trying to understand things and just rely on AI to give us all the answers?

So happy I was not able to trade my sei for hype lol
