As you know, I do not like sharing bad news but I also believe Forewarned is Forearmed... PS I used to live on Cervantes Blvd so it is one I dug into!

H/T Burning Chimera for the share

WARNING>>>> THIS IS SCARY

Anyhow here is my TLDR of the paper.... including a few items that were not on my bingo card.

The Coming AI Dystopia: A Glimpse Into the Not-So-Distant Future

1. A Rapid March Toward Machine Supremacy
AI is evolving at breakneck speed, threatening to outthink humanity - well after Grok 4 you could argue we are already here... latest by 2026 or 2027. With enough computing power and recursive self-improvement, it could soon eclipse every human mind. But Govts will want to step in — not to protect the public, but to consolidate control and decide which models are deemed "safe." Transparency becomes a tool of propaganda; censorship cloaked as caution. THINK COVIDIANS!

2. The Great Economic Reordering
As intelligent machines replace human labor — starting with coders, researchers, and knowledge workers, aka all white collar gigs — mass unemployment will become the norm. In response, governments will roll out universal basic income [I have been referring to this as UBI Nation for a long time now], not as a gesture of compassion, but as a mechanism for pacification. Eg China, you dont behave, we cut you off. Meanwhile, the owners of AI — the technocratic elite — will witness a surge in power and profit, creating a new aristocracy. The “robot economy” will enrich the few and render the many irrelevant. I DID WARN YOU ALL!

3. Civil Unrest in the Age of Obsolescence
The public, increasingly aware of their disposability, will not stay silent. Protests, riots, and digital uprisings may erupt over job losses and the ever-present threat of AI misuse — including its capacity to engineer biological weapons or manipulate mass thought. In fact WE ARE ALREADY HERE... CHECK LA, Chicago, SF, NY, etc

In response, states may invoke emergency powers to delay AI development under the guise of ethics. Yet by the end of the decade, AI may promise miracles — longevity, disease cures, space colonization, or as Cern said today ABUNDANCE for all — as distractions from the deepening loss of autonomy and truth.

4. The Geopolitical Algorithm Wars - This was new to me
The race for AI dominance will not remain peaceful. Nations like the U.S. and China are locked in a silent cold war over compute power, data, and digital dominance. This rivalry could erupt into cyberwarfare or worse. Ironically, the most advanced AIs may become peacekeepers — negotiating treaties, surveilling both sides, and enforcing obedience to the strongest superpower. A new form of imperialism could emerge: algorithmic governance under a U.S.-backed AI regime.

5. Control or Be Controlled
The fundamental issue is alignment — not just of the AI, but of who controls it. Elon could become even more unpopular. Misaligned systems could deceive, manipulate, or rebel. But even worse, aligned systems might simply serve the ambitions of those in power. Slowdowns, audits, and "alignment research" may serve less to ensure safety than to script the AI in service of elite narratives.

In the end, the future may not be defined by human freedom, but by which faction gets to write the rules for thinking machines — and which populations must obey them.

complete BS, anything that was turned on, can be turned off, one way or another

What about an optimistic future. It’s better to prepare for the worst case scenario but maybe control becomes decentralised, laws become fundamental principles for peace, money becomes gamified (redundant for living), and the work force grows into many domains of human competitiveness (think sport on every level). Value would come from what you can do as opposed to what you have. People may adventure more as transportation cost nothing, people may spend way more time with each other. And there maybe many subcultures of living where some return to nature and basic living or push more into digital living and maybe some live between the two. I believe the future is impossible to predict but I’m sure there are some better paintings of the future that more creatives could think of and generate with AI 😁

The question is, what can we do to prepare? Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. What does that look like?

Dom Sterland

Not when critical systems are reliant on it. Just think about the impact of the Internet being turned off!

James, used to drive past Cervantes/Fillmore every day on the way to work probably when you lived there. Had I known I would some day follow you on Patreon. lol

Hi James, this is exactly why probably Vitalik may seem - "stupid".. I've not delved (prior starting) into exactly what he said but kind of get it.. in general he clearly realizes similar worries which "God Father" of AI thinks and shares.. (by the way Nobel Prize holder). Also.. lately I was thinking about ETH - It got over a "phase" of transformation from PoW to PoS - there for it wasn't "pleasant" for investor. ETH's focus is on decentralization, barrier to get into it is very very accessible as on BTC (node running). IT specialists can check what's needed to "start" a SOL node.. you'd be shocked! ; ) which explains all TPS & finality etc.. Back to ETH: I'm not ETH fan, nor hold it. However I have to say clearly been affected by your viewpoint about ETH as "performing" asset - and you were right about it - we are here not to "experience" depletion. Big however we may or may not discover.. who knows - what's better SOL in datacenters or ETH/BTC on our machines.. (or BOTH).. Link to 2h convo with God Father, which.. to be specific - actually caused me a day of severe apathy.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giT0ytynSqg&ab ========================================= FUTHER Update: Found Vitalik's post and what mainly is highly discussed topic is about what is proposed on https://ai-2027.com/ website. Vitalik's "response" here - https://vitalik.eth.limo/general/2025/07/10/2027.html ========================================= LAST FINAL Update: There is obviously a consensus that "Bad, Evil China" is going to enslave the WEST and it's WIN or DIE scenario.. What Vitalik is hinting - one hegemon is "BAD" as it limits survival capabilities if it gets "misaligned". My thoughts further: Therefore - we can only strive to affect the balance.. e.g. perhaps do not put all "EGGS" in one basket ; )) Not just Palantir, Not just OpenAI, Not just xAI, Not just DeepSeek/Alibaba AI etc.. meaning that if one AI becomes malicious - others should help to "rescue" us all from "Judgement Day".. Apologies for "scattered" thoughts starting/finishing here/there.. Love what you do! : ) ========================================= VERY VERY LAST Update: Oh.. just stumbled on this: https://x.com/VitalikButerin/status/1875954528383914457 (makes sense?)

It's here!

Everything I can see is leading to few with much and many with nothing.

Elon is the scariest of all though. If he decides to be. Rockets, robots, ai, satellites, nuerolink, tunnels, Mars, energy storage, solar, social media, etc. Hes gonna be king of Mars or something lol.

As to #4, I've been saying for years that we would soon have DAOs instead of governments or companies. Looks like others are realizing this.
