Security Warning: Beware of Sophisticated Phone Scams

Scammers are using advanced tactics to impersonate trusted organizations, such as "Google Security", with caller ID spoofing showing a 650 area code. They just called me and said my sensitive information, ie my driver’s license or Social Security number, has been exposed in a public space. This bugger fraudster then asked me to open an email and click a link in that email, which of course would HIJACK my machine.

But this guy was a smooth talker....

Protect Yourself:

  • Never click on links or open emails prompted by unsolicited calls.

  • Do not answer unknown calls, especially those claiming to be from trusted entities. Google will not call you, nor will Coinbase etc

  • Use dedicated devices for sensitive activities like trading or investing, separate from everyday devices.

  • Verify any claims directly through official channels, such as Google’s verified contact information.

Stay vigilant and safeguard your personal information!

Hey James or anyone... Can you tell us (in detail) how to set up a SEPARATE device for trading and investing? Sounds simple in theory, but one would still need to have your primary email installed on the second device which I assume defeats the purpose...? Just curious how to make this as simple as possible.

I was just wandering the same thing. You would still need an email address on the separate device.

They did that for a while with Saylor giving away BTC, Anatoly giving away SOL. it's pitiful that they don't stop this. I was reporting the advertiser "Mohammad/Mohhamed" DAILY and this went on for weeks.

Did you send them all your XRP??? ;)

James I thought you told us you never answer your phone? Nobody should ever answer an unknown call, if they need to speak then they can leave a message then you can evaluate the importance of the call.

I used to work as a contractor to Apple, so not directly employed by them. On our system, I could find the address of any person who owned an iPhone. Very famous or politically sensitive people were hidden. However, if you are a regular schmo or even someone relatively famous. Take, for instance, UFC fighters. I used to get a kick out of looking up where they lived, then going on Street View and seeing their homes. So now think of this from the point of criminals. They can just share this info with whoever, right down to aerial views on Google Street View of your home to see the best way to gain access. Anyone for a home invasion?

I don’t even pickup phone calls anymore, unless he/she leaves a voicemail to call back. Most of the time I end up blocking it.
