And this is even at high RATES

Can you imagine how high this will go when rates come down.

Also, a big stock market crash could lead to forced selling of assets. By the way, I only use about 10% of my available margin.

PS I use Margin.

WHAT IS MARGIN:

Imagine you own $10,000 in stocks in your brokerage account - When you have MARGIN ACTIVATED< the brokerage can lend you extra cash, like half or $5,000, using your stocks as a promise you’ll pay them back (your stock is the guarantee).

So, with $10,000 of your own stocks and $5,000 borrowed on margin, you can buy $15,000 worth of stocks. Pretty neat! But if your $10K in stocks tanks to $5K the brokerage will margin call you or sell your stocks to cover their loan.

So high margin in 2000 and 2008 caused massive crash, same again in 2026?

Dump it. Stock market at all time highs with seasonality, trump tariffs (a hidden tax on american co's and consumers), a horrible job market and ai taking more jobs every month. What could possibly go wrong?!

Now that you say this I am thinking it may be a very good idea to start positioning for that and accumulate some dry powder.

I thought 20% was the max or is it 10%? Would like your thoughts. Thx

Are we not in a bull market? Im confused. Isn't the money printer in high gear? Corrections will happen. We know this. Maybe 30% hope not but can happen. Money printer goes into high gear and we recover. Has the game changed?

Can anyone clear one thing for me about margin? Brokerages only charge interest margin when you use the margin to buy, or doesn't matter you use it or not? i.e. say you have $100K portfolio to play with $50K of that is margin, will you get monthly interest charge on the $50K doesn't matter you use it to buy asset or stay in cash?

Be careful with margin. It can change your life on the upside and downside

How is James calculating his 10% margin usage ? Initial margin requirement / Buying power ?

This concerns me, especially with most assest being at/near all time highs.... Many loans taken out during the Covid ( low-interest-rate period ) will soon need to be repaid or refinanced at current higher rates. Many of these loans were used to invest in markets, and it’s likely that some borrowers are considering taking profits to repay the money they borrowed 3–5 years ago. This, combined with ATH margin levels would add a great amount of sell presure when/if everything unwinds... And this suppose to come starting the second part of this year, and supposedly would last for a few years or so. ( I mean the loan repayment ). As I understand, the only thing that would prevent this from happening would be much lower inteterest rates than they are now. That way loans can be refinanced again, and the borrowed money can stay invested. If FED decide to lower interest rates, how fast, and far will they go? Will it help if they go by 0.25% every now and then? And that is what they usually do. I dont know, but this bothers me the most these days....

Selling brings more selling. We are in a bull market until we are not. Downward moves happen very fast.

Incredibly scary stat. My elderly father unknowingly used his “margin power “ to buy a large quantity of stuck and he didn’t realize it until months later when I pointed in out. He was being charged 10.97% interest !

Stocks go up, margin goes up. What does this mean if margin is not measured as a percentage of total stock market cap? Nasdaq up around 16%, margin up around 24% vs a year ago. There must be a way to pull meaning out of this number other then it hit a new all time high
