Having a degree today doesn't equate to landing a job. For the first time ever college grads and non college grads have the same odds of landing a job and it is not good. Women with degrees are fairing better.

Needless to say there is probably some widespread disillusionment. I speak a lot about the debt burden of college in places like the US.... now against this backdrop it is alarming.

Beware also, many modern degrees lack market value, e.g., cultural studies, language studies (i had a tenant in SF who spent 4 years at school to learn Japanese Studies, I warned his father it was a waste of time.... as it turns out it was. Flushed $200K down the toilet), i have many more examples.

Elephant in the Room - AI

AI is already disrupting job markets. But the weird twist is it also empowers some... even helping people without a degree find a job if they are self starters.

It is examples like that that give me hope AI and cultural shifts will present better alternatives for those out there..... but rem we are now back at GFC and Covid Levels for job hunting which is just awful.

I have 2 jobs. The one using a degree which I used to work 9-5, 5 days a week. The other job doesn't require a degree, where I work 4x less the hours, and get paid double. I could easily quit the job woth the degree, but i want more TSLA shares. I continue to do both as I like both (for now). I have young kids and there are a few things I stick to (1) no screens (2) learn something new: read books every day, anything you like, continue playing the piano piece (3) creating stuff - painting, cooking, fixing

Such bullshit. What a waste of my life going to college.

Got a degrees in Business Admin. Landed a Logistics coordinator job after college and have been a stuck since. Feels like a dead end and I have been in an analysis paralysis as to what to do next.

Did you watch the All-In pod AI summit? They dispelled the FUD on how AI is taking all the jobs. They said it’s actually making the opportunity for more jobs.

Same. My wife and I both have 6 figure student loans and are low to middle income earners. We got scammed!

I learned a lot more during college than just what they taught in classes. I also worked throughout and left with only $10k in debt. If you're smart about it and do the most to minimize debt, I still think it's worth the experience. Discouraging people from going into crippling debt they can never escape makes sense, discouraging them from learning and becoming a more well-rounded person makes no sense at all. I feel like there is a lot of noise today like continuing your education provides absolutely no value which I just don't think is true. There are alternatives, but everyone should choose their own path, and do so wisely. That hasn't changed much.

Agreed. Education is for much more than making a salary. Much more....It opens up worlds of understanding and is a good tool to teach you how to take in lots of information in an organized and efficient way. Skills which are valuable and rewarding.

So more insecurity.. We should really begin to overthink the social safety nets. All for yourselves isnt going to work anymore.

That 200K in bitcoin would be about 2M plus right about now. Plus, in college there is a lost opportunity cost- 4 years with no income or very little even if you score a fat intern job.

Very worrying but inevitable

I was listening to the radio and subject came about how trade schools are the way to go. People were making close to 6figs after finishing. The demand is so high right now.
