Gold Reserves and Bitcoin (Patreon)

Good news. The Federal Reserve has released its first in-depth review of Senator Cynthia Lummis’ proposal to back Bitcoin reserves using revalued U.S. gold holdings. The analysis explores the idea of updating the official valuation of Treasury gold—currently frozen at a dusty $42.22 per ounce since 1973—to today's market price. With 261.5 million ounces of gold on the books, revaluation could unlock as much as $850 billion, potentially enough to acquire 1 million BTC.
Today, that gold is officially worth just $11 billion, but at current market rates, it represents a vast untapped financial resource. The proposal builds on a precedent set during the Trump administration, when seized Bitcoin was used to initiate a strategic reserve. Now, by modernizing gold valuations, the U.S. could dramatically enhance its Bitcoin position—a rare chance to leverage old wealth for a digital future.
