Softbank has a record of making poor investments

Some history:

  • Vision Fund Losses (2022-2023, $32 billion)

  • WeWork ($18.5 billion invested, ~$10.3 billion loss)

  • Zume (total loss)

  • View ($1.2 billion invested, ~$1.6 billion loss)

And now this

INTC

Japan’s SoftBank has agreed to invest $2bn in Intel, supporting the troubled US chipmaker as the Trump administration considers its own investment in the company.

SoftBank will buy $2bn worth of newly issued Intel common stock directly from the company, paying $23 a share, with the transaction subject to the usual closing conditions, Intel said in a statement on Monday. The investment would amount to about a 2 per cent stake in Intel.

OPENAI

Insiders at OpenAI are also dumping their stock direct to Softbank...

They are trying to mimic us. Cristal=Christos= inverted to their false gods. We are the true Christos. They need us, true souls. They already loss the battle. They can’t stop the truth from coming. We are the true intelligence. Many won’t even see it but a few in here will. It was never outside of you. You are the supreme intelligence. Know thyself. Remember who you are! Ones with eyes to see and ears to hear will. I’m not talking about the physical eyes and ears. Blind leading the blind here. You think you are lost, but you are only crowded by mirrors that never showed you.

IA Apprentice

How are they still in business after those kind of loses.

Masa Son had poor judgement in making investment, imagine IF $2 Billions invested in TSLA instead. And oh don't forget he SOLD ALL NVDA stakes @$3.00 Jan 2019.

Synthetic K

More potential upside than downside so I'm in with an SL. Same as for Circle

P Bear

I guess that's why they're Soft. And any company that would invest in The View... well you get what you paid for. 😉

I might have missed it - did James criticised equally the Trump Administration for making the same mistake/investment or is he just biased when it comes to Trump?

Keith Fitzgerald thinks Govt intentional plan first depressing price then arrange deal to buy Intel as their chip maker.

Nopemerry

They are just back scratchers

As a few other people have mentioned having all the cutting edge chips that enable AI be produced solely by a company based on a small island that may be taken over in a few years, is not a good geopolitical bet. TSMC have said they'll put some production in the US, but that will disintegrate if the US doesnt intervene if an invasion goes through and TSMC is not focusing on their leading edge nodes in the US as a geopolitical hedge. If intel goes out of business the US AI chip production is screwed if China takes Taiwan. This will also have a massive impact on all US tech companies and filter down through to normal companies. Intel may be performing poorly and might not be a good short term investment, but it's literally the US's if not the world's best option if TSMC fails. Though Europe really need their own alternative to not depend on the US, but pigs will fly before Europe get their tech working.
