I got my apprenticship back in 1998. Then went to design school, then worked at a digital artist in the VFX industry for 20 years. Then writers strike. Now I have a business doing exactly what I was first trained to do. I have freedom. I have the profits. I have security.

In fact your employer will usually pay for your education. So you actually earn while you learn. No brainer

Tradesmen don't work from home and have the flexibility that remote corporate jobs do. Tradeswork also takes a toll on your body.

you start out in the trades and become: A planner, A scheduler, A estimator, A project manager, A site director. As an engineer I WORKED for many people that worked their way up from the trades.

32 with a biz degree. Too late to try and switch? I’m not even hitting that first figure. But have the drive to see this through for my family

There are a ton of job openings in western ND and TX in the energy sector. CDLs are gold, please operators/pumpers, gas compression operators are all entry level. First year you should easily make $60k, 2nd year $90k, and $110-140k the 3rd year. Walmart is paying $21.50 for night time stockers. There are so many jobs open in the local economy, I.e. teachers, store managers, delivery, etc. Teachers are being hired a year before they graduate.

Thanks for this James. Can you share examples of apprenticeships out there?

University is a left wing indoctrination experience these days, so trades are a no brainer.

I’m 42, I started carpentry 8 years ago & did the express course in 1.5 years. Became a builder 2 years later. I was making $200k+ a year as a handyman. Switched to commercial builder & doubled that income. Never too late mate

I’m a contractor, in business over 30 years. I owe it to Robert F, my wood shop teacher during high school. Taught me a lot. Never cared for college. They need to bring the trades back to high school and middle schools. They also need to teach kids about financial responsibility. Teens starting as an apprentice in any trade can make as much as a lawyer or doctor after four or five years. And no debt.
