🚨 BREAKING: The EU is considering scrapping its CBDC plans in favor of a stablecoin on a public blockchain, according to the FT.

Ethereum and Solana are both being mentioned as possible options.

One insider told the FT that since the “Genius Act” passed, EU officials have been rethinking the digital euro.

Here’s the twist: I’ve always been firmly anti-CBDC. But imagine if Europe rolled out its own stablecoin on Solana… That would put me in a real dilemma — I’d have to seriously reconsider my stance on holding Solana.

Well can't anyone build a stablecoin on any Network. What's the difference between US and EU doing it. Both government still trying control use.

Im not sure how to read you on this post, James. Is it the CBDC angle that has you torn? At least if can understand that. But the chain is built, SOL is absolutely doing everything you've been saying it would. Cant all tech be used for both good or ill? I understand if its a moral conviction. I like to believe i have morals that extend far beyond profits too. In any case, im really just trying to understand this post and the meaning of you questioning the chain. Im sure we'd all love to hear a follow up. Even if just for clarification, buddy Yer the best! And we all appreciate you and the team more than you can know. Go in peace, my friend! I really do hope you are proud AS YOU SHOULD BE for creating this wonderful community and helping so many of us out with REAL LIFE SHIT! I was hours away from taking my 1st round of Ozempic... it was your post that made me decide not to do it. 😁👍👊✌️🤘❤️❤️❤️

Ultimate Fiction

Wouldn’t it be good if an EU stablecoin was used in solana? Isn’t it just as good a use case as a circle US stablecoin? Would it be great if every country had a stablecoin in their country’s currency? If we want stocks and real estate all on solana don’t we want every country in the world also on solana?

Crypto-Cephalon

Palantir makes weapons that kill people daily and you've held that stock. Why the sudden ethical dilemma? James, you're turning into a bit of drama queen.

Dont agree with that stance. To me it means a lot everyone has the same opptunitys, so everyone can create a token, if people choose to use it so be it, but let the people decide

Ho Ho Ho

Why if an entity is using a premissionless blockchain it has such an impact on your stance? There is soo much more happening and being serviced, i share similar point of view and values but i don't experience a change regarding solana.

That’s like saying you won’t drive a ford because Henry Ford was a Nazi sympathiser or a BMW because they built war planes.

Perfect excuse for dumping your shitcoin without having to admit its a shitcoin

James, this is pure double standards. If a CBDC is launched on Solana, that shouldn’t be a reason to dump — unless you already know Solana isn’t truly neutral. On Bitcoin, you’d never say you’re reconsidering just because criminals or governments use it. That’s the whole point: Bitcoin is unstoppable and unsteerable. But Solana? It can be halted, steered, and even co-opted for a CBDC. If that makes you want to sell, it only proves Solana isn’t what its promoters claim. At the end of the day, Bitcoin is incorruptible — altcoins like Solana are just speculation dressed up as tech

ScaryKiwi

Isn't all stablecoins just CBDCs in disguise? Anyway, Government stablecoins on a public chain seems like a win. People will decide which stablecoins to use.
