Tesla's Model Y is experiencing a surge in demand and is effectively selling out in key markets as buyers rush to secure the $7,500 federal EV tax credit before its expiration on September 30, 2025.

Recent checks in New York and California show lead times extended to about 5 weeks for new orders, putting potential deliveries right up against—or potentially past—the deadline, though an IRS update clarifies that a binding contract signed before October 1 can still qualify you for the credit even if delivery occurs later.

So don't panic... but you may have to wait a tad longer.

Exactly the same scenario played out here in New Zealand when the government announced the end to EV tax credits. There was a huge rush to buy EV’s and the numbers of sales in the last two months were astronomical. Since then the EV market has been completely dead.

The IRS clarification is a big deal. It essentially means that Q4 sales will also be good, if masses order by Sept 30 but wouldn't mind waiting a few months for delivery. It also means that there is very real possibility that Tesla announces a new model very soon, so those interested can get the EV credit on the new model also if they pre-order by Sept 30.

The same will happen here in the US. I live close to a mall where Tesla uses the parking lot to store hundreds of cars. They've been sitting there for most of spring and summer collecting dust, and now that the incentive is about to away, some are looking to buy. By Oct./Nov., sales will plunge again.

Just picked up my Model 3 today. I figured if I’m holding Tesla stock, I better own the car. It’s been a blast driving thus far.

They're both woke. So in that bubble, it works. So even AAPL cannot stand Scam Altman.

Noticed Tesla presence on the Singapore roads increased a lot lately

Income limits on being able To get the EV tax credit. I’ll be due for a new vehicle in March 2026 so I hope the price drop occurs before then. More likely to see that on used models I would think

Value Added Tax. Portugal is the most expensive country in Europe for new & imported cars

Just closed on my new Model Y this past weekend and awaiting delivery on or before September 7th. I bought a model that they had in inventory but had to act quick as they were disappearing when I was talking with the Sales Rep in the showroom! Very excited. I also never realized that you could use a 2 year lease to "get around" the income restriction on the incentive for purchases. Lease for 2 years then act on the buyout option!
