The Magnificent 7 captured nearly 70% of the S&P 500's economic profit. The other 493 shared 30% of profits. If you imagine Profit was $100.... eg, the 493 had an average profit of 20 cents each, whereas the Mag 7 had $10 each.

Equal-weighted version assigns same weight to each stock, highlighting average company performance. Give this, the ratio between equal-weighted and cap-weighted indices fell below 2009 Global Financial Crisis lows.

Put another way, on average, the 493 companies in the S&P 500 have gone nowhere for 16 years.

Divide it by M2 growth it is a horror show.

AI will make this even more egregious over the next 5 years - where winners will not take most, they will take everything.

EverythingSalad

With this information, would it make more sense to move my funds that are in an S&P500 index to a NASDAQ index fund?

MGM

True! Yet, some stocks like RR and RKLB have done better then any MAG 7(exluding maybe NVDA) in the last 2.5-3 years.

Ahcmetal

I'd probably check what the top 5-10 holdings in those index funds are and just buy those stocks on their own

CryptoMom

Does anyone know… Has James posted his “Mag9” yet?

Marcus Aurelius

esco-j

He done a yt video probably a couple months back outlining the idea

Helayaa

Are the dividend payouts included in this analysis?

Maine McEachern

This is insane. If the Mag 7 captured 70% of the S&P 500 profit (over an unspecified time frame), and the latter were $100, the remaining 493 companies would be averaging 6 cents of profit each …
