Why?

Nvidia's $5 billion investment in Intel—via a purchase of Intel common stock at $23.28 per share—is part of a broader strategic partnership announced on September 18, 2025, aimed at accelerating advancements in AI and computing infrastructure.

Intel was the heart of the Data Center and the combo of NVDA GPUs and CUDA architecture together with the nuts and bolts that intel has esp around packaging can help NVDA scale and create more efficient, integrated systems for the "next era of computing."

PS NVDA is nearly 5% of my wealth.

I’ve been wondering of owning some INTC might be prudent. They’re not a great company and clearly struggle in some ways, but if a Taiwan invasion were to happen and TSMC went offline, they would be the main chip manufacturer left, wouldn’t they? So, INTC is like disaster insurance. What do others think of this thesis?

Is this the AI play of the decade? https://whalewisdom.com/filer/situational-awareness-lp Context - AI lab / Open AI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner started a hedge fund focusing on AI infra, data centers, and energy--all geared towards AGI supremacy. based on the 13F filings, the fund is up 200% in less than a quarter. INTC is a huge position. @James - can you please speak to this thesis and the companies in the port for those that want a long term AI play?

Intel may eventually recover. I made the idiotic mistake of buying INTC about 5 years ago, INSTEAD of NVDA (because NVDA had run up and I thought INTC would at least somewhat catch up). Like betting on an 80-year old in a 1500m footrace, against a 24-year old olympic gold medalist. Maybe won't gas out and fall down bankrupt before others help him stagger to the finish line of some sort of profitable business.

James, I like 5% of my wealth, not 5% of my worth or holdings

Apple might also have some deal with Intel. Maybe to get around the Trump tarriffs?
