Individual investors’ cash levels are near record lows

Retail investors’ allocation to cash was 16.5% in August, one of the lowest readings in 4 years.

This percentage has fallen -3.2 points since April.

By comparison, the long-term average has been ~22% since 1987.

Individual investors now hold 67.3% in stocks, just below the June 2024 multi-year peak of 70.5%.

They also hold 16.2% of their capital in bonds, roughly in-line with readings over the last 4 years.

Retail investors are all-in on this market.

PS I am currently about 8% cash from selling some of my Miners and not buying anything for a while.

I can’t get this math through my head. 10 percent case now vs a future sale implies that your average cost even on a 10 percent drop would be a factor of 10 meaning reducing your average cost base of only 1%. Now I know James and team shoot for 3x plays but wouldn’t it make sense for the average investor to just deploy and DCA into positions given the math?

Agree. My only cash is my emergencies bucket.

Personally, i am sitting on way more cash than i am comfortable with. All is all, not a bad problem to have.

Cash is trash. LFG !!

This is not good. But more importantly. What is the average cash % positions for institutions? If low, then we have a big problem coming for this stock market and bull run. No liquidity = poor upward movememt.

Ah so retail is all in... Sounds bearish

Most of tradfi gets all its information from BBerg/Reuters/CNBC ie fakes news/establishment owned. So institutions & wall street are bearish. And alternatives like Dan Tapero/Dan Morehead/Mike Novogratz etc are all mega bullish. Trad fi will try and crash the market but if they cant, there is so much money sidelined.

Been moving to cash all week. Look at the topping tail on the DOW. also the convergence of 5 and 10 yr trend lines hitting all time highs.

Wow how people love their cash. I have a couple month's expenses or so in cash which is less than 1% and I am retired on my portfolio. If you count margin I am -25% cash or so, lol.
